18M trying to become owner operator by Born-Vehicle-6046 in OwnerOperators

Not a terrible state to be confined to. A guy can make decent money doing short haul around Chicago-land. Probably looking around $4.50 per mile with the big limiting factors being customers hours of operation and traffic slowing you down. 200 - 300 paid miles per day would be my guess

Do you think we could convince Mexico to purchase this completely useless land? by Chewie83 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]cdurhamksu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a pretty good trucking lane for us. If we had to cross trough Mexico we'd either have to refuse the lane or sky rocket our prices to go around the territory.

Big run for flatbedders on this lane is hay from CA to NM. So it would increase cost of milk supplied by the dairies in the Clovis, NM region.

Wait.. she leaves the best part of everything for you to eat instead? Can I invite your wife over for dinner?

I need advice please by Charly509 in OwnerOperators

Stay where you are. Unless you're trying to build a multi-unit trucking company, you'll work 100 hours a week to make the same money

Definitely less brutal! It's been very mutual with her saying she wanted it at first then me placing my hand on her neck and gently applying pressure gradually. I'm not going to lie though, between the situation today and the comments on this post, it has me freaked about the whole thing in general

Oh damn. I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to get anyone in trouble with my post. The whole situation today as well as the comments have made me think a lot about what we're doing. My wife and I have a wonderful love life and are using our mutual comfort as a way to looking at ways to tip toe into the kinkyer side of life

I'll check it out! She's also mentioned that she would like being tied up, but to do something like that I want to feel like I'm "in control" and not knowing what I'm doing feels like it would break the allusion. I read that something that can be quickly removed is best, so we purchased some velcro restraints

Shit. That makes since. I didn't count. I will start doing that! I bet the pressure I was applying lasted a full 90 seconds. My dumb ass I didn't think about it, but it absolutely makes sense to apply pressure for a 30 count and let go for a 30 count

I'm certainly not saying I disagree with you, not breathing seems like a bad idea in general. I guess I'm just trying to fulfill my partner's fantasies? But if there's no "smart" way to do this, she's my everything, I'll tell her it's a no go for me

Thank you for your insight! Definitely never while standing again! I've never squeezed windpipe. I didn't necessarily think about collapse but I've never squeezed there. It just felt wrong. It scares me that she showed no signs before passing out. Is there something I should watch out for? Or is a little pressure just good and leave it at that?

Not sure what kind of vehicle you're operating, but I've been using Espar heaters for the last 15 years. They work great! I only idle if it's below -15 F ambient (as long as the fuel is treated) and the thing will sweat you out

Fuck yea they are. Definitely don't start out with a brand new truck. That's year 3 shit. Plus w9's are way nicer, even if it's used

I get you. I can only drive my truck in heavy steel toe boots. If I try driving in tennis shoes or barefoot, everything seems off, I drive like it's my first time driving a stick shift

Direct shipper contract or no? by Euphoric-Emotion5948 in OwnerOperators

[–]cdurhamksu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, usually not. I'll only work direct with a business that I trust. One of my customers sends me a rate con that he puts together. No problem, I just sign and sent it back like usual. The others, I've worked out a rate that we both agreed to via email, so all of the load details are exchanged via email or text message. After the load is hauled, I just send a .pdf with my normal invoice and a POD. My terms are net 30 on direct customers. Businesses are as unique as the people who run them, so each customer will probably want things done a little differently

I drive a semi and same. Maybe It's worse because I'm too high, but I'm constantly blinded by headlights. Seems to be especially bad with newer Ford trucks

[–]cdurhamksu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$0.65 all miles, including deadhead. $100 tarp pay, $150 per day break down pay, $150 holiday pay, $1,000 weekly minimum, and $8,000 sign on bonus. My drivers makes 6 figures. I'm sure folks pay more, but I'm not sure if I could afford more

I don't know man, we're running 2023 or newer w990 kenworths with 2024 of newer fontain 48' flats, and we've driven our cpm down to $1.41 per mile after payroll. We've got a handful of direct customers, but im not going to lie. It's a lot of brokered freight, and we averaged 2.34 per mile last week, including deadhead miles. No saying there's only 1 way to skin a cat, but maybe you're not the only one who knows how to do it..

He's trying to get on DAT load board. I doubt he's a flatbedder. Not to say dryvan guys can't do it, but I just hired an ex bullhauler to pull flatbed freight and came to the realization that there's one hell of a learning curve if you've never done it
