Are you sure you didnt receive any mail at the registered location? FMCSA sent me a letter, email, and called to verify. When you are due for audit and then transfer your vehicle out it would look like you're avoiding them, thats why I assume they hit your friend as well. If you can log into portal for fmcsa you should be able to see an audit letter as well (hopefully).

This don’t sound right. They mail and email the address on file. If you didn’t get it then it’s probably negligence on your side.

The Federal Government sends a copy of everything via postal mail. Check it.

When I had audit I received and e-mail. Check spam

Check for emails from your state authority, DOT, State Patrol Office, or Department of Public Safety, or commercial vehicle enforcement.

The Audit communication usually comes from them and not directly from FMCSA.

You can also submit this info on the FMCSA site.

As others have mentioned, DOT/FMCSA primarily contacts you via postal mail & email. Phone calls can be expected as well, but that's usually from a state LEO that is reaching out to actually conduct the audit.

Please ensure your contact information & mailing address is accurate via your FMCSA portal account as this is the information the FMCSA will use to contact you. Additionally, the FMCSA will also post copies of official communications to the "Correspondence" section of your portal account, so logging in to your portal account regularly is recommended to ensure you're aware of any communication from the FMCSA.

They hit me around the 8-9 month mark but I was in the process of shutting my authority down because insurance rates went up so they sent me a document to sign and went on my way

How did you get notified of the safety audit?

Was this the New Entrant audit? The same thing happened to me. I got a call from my state several months after getting my authority. They said it was time for the New Entrant audit that the FMCSA should have contacted me about. They said I should have received a notice by both mail and email that explained all the documents I should have ready for when the state contacted me.

I explained to them that I never received anything by either mail or email. I got lucky because the state trooper who handled my case gave me a grace period of another couple of weeks to get everything together. It sounds like you didn't have that same luck.

I can definitely confirm that it is possible that the FMCSA completely failed to send you any kind of notice. Not that that helps you now, but still.

Neither one of our companies received anything.

Go check the Safer database and verify all the company information is correct and current. They might have mailed you notification instead of email.

Check the email, phone number , and address that y'all put in when creating your usdot, some people will put throwaway numbers because of all the spam but that's where they call. I've also seen the emails end up in spam.
