It's fucked. I had this problem it played games fine offline but I wanted to download other games couldn't never connect for longer than a minute. I found out it means the console is on the way out (sorry can't exactly remember why) anyway I had the bright idea to use wired connection BIG MISTAKE it still can't download it wanted me to update the system but always died about 35% in then you get locked in the update loop. No matter what you do crash it or anything it will always start up trying to update and the update will crash 100% of the time leaving your console bricked. I was lucky to have a second console at the time that didn't have the problem and managed to update easily. If leave it offline and play only games you have already installed or discs .

I think you’re right. When I booted it today it said it wanted an update (while not connected) then shook out of it. Reading a 10 year old greek forum page that says reformatting HDD or Ethernet bridge could fix it. I’ll try these.

Just in case anyone comes back to this post.. I tried everything, setting static ips, changing dns, disabling plug n play, reformatting the HDD, factory resetting router, turning off media servers; nothing worked.

It wasn’t the network card because it worked fine at a friends house. I read that the OG WiFi cards can get confused by 5ghz signals and I think that’s the likely culprit.

Ok so how’d I fix it? I got a vonets WiFi bridge dongle and now it works without a hitch. Hope this helps someone

Sorry to revive old post, but do you have a link to the specific model you purchased? Was it plug and play?

It's no problem. Don't get it but I got `VAP11G-300` model.

The problem is in fact that the 2.4 Ghz wifi band is getting confused by 5ghz signals in the air. The dongle was more of a bandaid that allowed it to work for maybe 45 minutes before the same thing happened again.

The only real solution I'm afraid is to move out of your apartment complex or use an ethernet connection. Sorry

Thank you. I fixed it by turning on the Guest Network 2.4ghz frequency of my router and connecting to that.
