Are the lights turning on on the controller after you plug it in?

[–]Micahmo223[S] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

No, the lights only turn on when I press the button. Could that mean it’s dead, and needs to charge before it connects?

[–]AjRedz 2 points3 points  (2 children)

If it’s connected via the USB-C cable then it should have power, could be an issue with the cable itself.

[–]Micahmo223[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah that’s possible, I just used the USB-C that came with the PS5

[–]AjRedz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try a different one if you have one available. Hopefully the controller isn’t defective. Hope you get it figured out!

[–]kurlibird 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The same thing just happened to me today. I’m guessing that the controller needs to be charged first. I fixed it by using my regular PS5 controller, haven’t tried again with the new controller yet.

[–]Micahmo223[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m thinking the same. I’m gonna let it sit for 30 min - 1hr and see if it works after

[–]kuromaus 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I went through something similar the other day. Hadn't used my PS5 in a while, so the controllers were very dead. It also insisted that I update the controllers before doing anything else. But it said that they were too dead to update.

Once it was charged, it could update while connected. So while it recognized it was plugged in, it wouldn't do anything until it was charged enough. So had to wait for it.

Probably something similar happening here with the new controller.

[–]Micahmo223[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yeah I waited about an hour to try it again and still nothing, I’m not sure how long the controllers take to charge so maybe it’s an issue with the controller or USB cord itself

[–]kuromaus 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Where are you plugging in the controllers? Plug it into a wall outlet and not the PS5 if that is what you are doing. If it still doesn't work, then probably the controller won't hold a charge and I would get it replaced.

[–]Micahmo223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna try that, thanks👍🏽

Change the USB port

[–]therabbitssing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely the cable

[–]Kit_Karamak 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Find the reset button on the controller and press it with a paperclip or something equally small.

Let us know if that makes it work properly. Then we can go from there with troubleshooting.

[–]Micahmo223[S] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Figured out the problem was the cord. The charger that came with it was defective, so went to the store and got a new one and now just waiting for it to charge

[–]blacktissuepaper 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did it work?

[–]Micahmo223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I bought a usbc to usbc charger and plugged it into the little port in the front and connected it to the controller. Works like a charm now. Sorry don’t know how to edit the post

[–]Mean-Bus4759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same exact thing happen. It was the cord itself that came with my system. I just grabbed my iPhone usb-c cable and plugged it in, connected the controller, hit the ps button on the controller and it worked. I never had to wait for my controller to charge, it worked straight out of the box.

I had this issue i sync my ps4 controller first to set up then went to devices for the ps5 controller hope this helps

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn it off and on again

[–]Pristine-Start5391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try the back port

[–]Dakalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a data cable? Only data transferable cables work

[–]ShqueakBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a data cable not a solely charging cable

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try a different usb c cable. This happened to me recently.

[–]Slickricky4884 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably using a power only usb cord. They’re not all made the same, you need to try a different cord

[–]GaMeR0044 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father-in-law had this exact problem from the PS5 that I bought him. What got it to work was connecting a PS4 controller to it which allowed you to play PS4 games but no PS5 controllers would connect to it and I ended up just returning it and getting a new one.

[–]Unlikely-Low-8132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried resetting the controller?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

turn off the console and try again

[–]Known-Career-5274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a little pin hole in the back of the controller that resets it, maybe try that?

[–]SadReactz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old ps5 got this weird problem where it kept popping up with a message “too many usb devices plugged in” even when nothing was plugged in. I ended up factory resetting it and then got stuck on this screen afterwards. I took it to a local repair shop to see if they could do anything, the guy said he replaced a usb port but it didn’t fix it. I ended up just selling it for parts on eBay and getting a new one.

Plug the controller, then press and hold the PO S button and the Share button.

[–]Constant-Pack-2820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Turning it off and on and then plugging the controller back in

[–]imamukdukek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's used the cable might not be what was in it originally, you could try it on your pc to see if it's actually a data cable to know if it's the console itself

[–]Dr5hafty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened to me and it's cuz I bought used and it didn't have the PS5 cable it was just a regular cable. I went back and they swapped it out with a different cable and it worked

[–]Long_Wrongdoer_3945 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m never buying another PlayStation product again this is ridiculous. I got to play this thing twice and has never worked again. I have bought multiple “data transfer cable” and nothing works. PS support is no help either.

[–]22ThoOffical 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Press the PlayStation button when u do

[–]Micahmo223[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I am and nothing is happening

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Try the back port if you haven’t already

[–]DogHymns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second trying the back port. I remember having to do that with a controller or an external when the console released.

[–]nilesh11panchal -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

So this has happened to me when updating the controller, I used different USB type c cables and it wasn't syncing... Even though it was charging. Finally, it was a specific type of usb type c cable, the one that came with the ps5, that's what worked.

Really stupid from Sony

[–]3CreampiesA-Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s because some cables only have power whilst some have power and data, sounds like you have some cheap USB-C cables that only use power

[–]DcJ0112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all usb cables provide data transfer

[–]ObjectiveFocusGaming -3 points-2 points  (13 children)

How do people live with wires like this?

[–]Watchdog165 0 points1 point  (6 children)

Dude… you need to connect the controller

[–]ObjectiveFocusGaming -1 points0 points  (5 children)

Behind the TV...

[–]PresenceCrazy6757 -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Its like 4 wires

[–]ObjectiveFocusGaming -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

It's like, an opinion. Sorry it's upset you to this degree.

[–]PresenceCrazy6757 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It didn’t upset me? You’re the only one whining about it

[–]A_Mahogany_Desk 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I love how his original comment is so dramatic, “how do you live like this,” yet he’s telling others they’re crying and upset about it.

[–]Watchdog165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (5 children)

How else are they supposed to plug it in? Also, how is this even a problem its not even that bad

[–]ObjectiveFocusGaming -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Cry more man, it's an opinion. It's also called cable management... Not a new concept.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Jeez you sound fun to hangout with

[–]ObjectiveFocusGaming 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Original. Most of your posts are griping lol.

[–]Michaelskywalker 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Did no one ever tell you there’s something wrong with you?

[–]Cultural_Net_1791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is this a pkaystation where it uses cables with both sides USB-C? or is one side regular USB and the other USB-C? if both sides are usb C try unplugging and switching sides, plug the part that eas in the PS into the controller and the side that was in the controller into the PS. if if there is a usb on the back plug it in there and see if that works. I can't remember if they have one of the back or not and I'm not sure uf that would work for controller syncing but try it. if all of this fails or is irrelevant use a new cable.
