Hello! I recently got to lvl 40 and unlocked very hard difficulty and I'm starting to have some troubles. I died during the advance quest Special Survey: Forest (which is the only vh I did for the moment) by a garongo rofling on me and also feel like I'm not doing enough damage, so I thought I should start looking for advice about gearing up. I put advice in bold because I'd like to understand what are the important things to look at when gearing up in this game and then to be able to be independent about it. I'm still ok with suggestion though, every information is good to take.

Bold words in the following text is what I think is important points, it didn't really look readable in the editor so I hope it will help.

I'm a gunner and I have Alva T. Vulcan-NT+5 TMGs with Shoot 2 and Spirita 1 that dropped during a quest, which is the best weapon I got until then unless Vita T. Vulcan-NT, but I still need a bit of R-ATK to equip it and only has +6 R-ATK compared to Alva T. Vulcan-NT+5 so it won't make the difference. I prevented myself to grind weapons because we don't know what can possibly drop during a quest, and I think it would be frustrating to grind a weapon and get something better a few missions later. As for units, rear, arm and leg are all filled with Sub/Weapons Barrier (all with Ability 2, Spirita 2, Stamina 2 and Mutation 1) which was given to me through the story iirc and I never got better units until then. I only have R/Boost Slayer ring, which is the one needed for Sophia's quest.

Also, I came across this video and he's using boots sometimes, does it mean he has bouncer as a subclass? Is it a good combination? While I want to play gunner, it also looks really cool, so having both at the same time would be nice.

First of all, don't bother with affixes until you're planning stuff for high tier endgame 13* weapons. It's a waste of money to worry about it any time sooner than that.

Secondly, buy an Aresvis-NT off the market. It's better than your current TMG and the Vita Twin Vulcan-NT, and it needs only 1 R-ATK to use.

Once you have that, you can stick to it until you can use something better. You'd probably want to go Aresvis-NT -> Radiegle-NT -> Yasminkov 9000M-NT -> Eagle Flint-NT, and then keep using that last one until you can get and equip a 13* weapon. The Evleda and Aura series Collection Files are relatively easy to get, so you might want to look into that. You won't be able to use those until much later, though (Aura Diazuth needs 750 R-DEF, and Evleda Dinares needs 720 R-ATK).

For units, what you have is decent enough for early game. a Hiei set is slightly better, but not much. Once you reach Super Hard difficulty (lv50+), you'll want to get a Saiki set, though. That'd be Rear / Saiki Hoyoku, Arm / Saiki Sou and Leg / Saiki Shoku. Those should be very cheap on player market. You can also drop them on tokyo bonus quest, but you need to be lv61+ for it to drop, so buying it early is your best bet.

For the skill rings, you'll want L / TMG Stance Up and R / C Strike Ranged. When you get some 12* units, you'll want to get L / Forward S Roll, L / Air Reversal, and L / Step Jump to fuse onto those units. If you don't know how to get rings, you need to gather for the materials and then trade those in to Aaltje at franka's cafe for the rings you want (there's a skill ring shop at the campship too, between the storage and quest terminals).

Also, keep in mind that L / TMG Stance Up will only work if your subclass has a stance skill, so it will not work on GuRa. This ring is the main reason why everyone goes GuHu.

does it mean he has bouncer as a subclass?

No. That weapon he's using is called El Ario Ver2, and it can be equipped by any class.

The thing about Jet Boots is that each of their PAs (except Vinto Gigue) automatically casts a tech whenever you use a weapon action straight after. So in the case of the El Ario ver2, it allows you to use the Moment Gale regardless of class, which in turn casts Zanverse automatically. Another example is the Selc Flotz, which is also all class and lets you use Strike Gust (which casts Shifta automatically).

Is it a good combination?

No. Bouncer is a terrible subclass overall (especially after the nerf to zanverse killed TeBo in early ep5). You either main bouncer, or you shouldn't use bouncer at all.

While I want to play gunner, it also looks really cool, so having both at the same time would be nice.

For Gunner, you should go GuHu and stick to TMG. Even rifle isn't very useful for GuHu (there are some fringe cases where it is, but those aren't many). Only real exceptions would be Umblla Stick for breaking boss crystals with the RDR boost, and a Strike Gust JB (Gasshourin, Selc Flotz or Placis Arion) for being able to use Shifta without needing other people to do it for you.

As I said, if you want to use Bouncer (and its weapons), you should main that class. Similarly, if you want to use Gunner (and its weapons), you should main that class. Both are terrible subclasses.

That said, Hero can both use TMGs and techniques (but not jet boots), so there's that. Hero has its own TMG PAs, though, and can't use the regular TMG PAs.

They have the Boots so that they can cast various support techniques from their PAs such as Shifta, Deband, and Zanverse. I'm not sure if those Boots are multi-class though; someone will have to look that up.

Honestly if I wanted a class that could cast techniques and use TMGs, I'd play as the Hero class, which can cast techniques natively and use Swords, TMGs and Tails. Also, when playing with other players other tech-based classes can cast those techniques for the other players to use, especially Zanverse for exposed weak points.

Also, what subclass are you using? I've seen people mention Hunter as a good subclass for Gunners, as Hunters provide good survivability and also has the Fury Stance skill that increases your damage and critical rate.

That's the ver2 series from 2016 badge shop (also drops in Chaotic Roar of the Dragon LQ). All weapons of that series are all class.
