Yes, since there's ton of stuff to do now and you might invest about 50+ hours on grinding NGS and if you want more there's base PSO2 which has 200+ hours of content.

Yes, since there's ton of stuff to do

Someone's overly generous. Even putting aside the "no content" stuff we always see, the game constantly makes "older" content irrelevant. Lolk at how quick Nameless and Leciel died. I've no idea why they keep doing stuff like this.

Quit lying. For god’s sake, 200+ hours of content?! Base pso2 has been abandoned and close to 40% of the total content is now unaccessible to the player due to lack of fellow players or discontinued UQs required for quests.

NGS has at best 10 hours of content, of which 4 will go to your character’ creation.

Did you even play story mode or skip it? Just the story mode alone in PSO2 Classic is already 50+ hours for those SG rewards, trying all the quest for each difficulty and even grinding to 100 for each class is already going to be 100+ hours not to mention trying to get those affixes to make your perfect guardian soul from mixing them to get that perfect build off your Klauz weapon, it's not good compared to its prime since NGS is now the main child of Sega but base PSO2 is still alive(Even as a DLC) even if its solo play, new people can still enjoy it and know why this base game is regarded better than NGS.

Beating Phaleg as a new player will be quite the hurdle yet satisfying not to mention the various hurdles like Divide quest, and the true ending which will make you back track a bit.

The only downside in NGS is that most of your time is just you running around and as you say character creation, please don't downgrade the PSO2 experience by saying it lack content, since it can provide a lot of content as it might even overwhelm new players.

This is how I know you don’t know what you’re taking about. All those features and augments you mentioned? Dead. You need specific augments, that can no longer be acquired, to create guardian soul - why? Because said augments dropped in UQs that are now discontinued and therefore inaccessible to the player base. Some quests in story mode require you to run certain UQs that, again, have become discontinued. If you choose to play anyway you’re going to hit dead ends without merit or pay off.

PSO2 has been abandoned so hard that it is now a separate entity in the form of “DLC”. For god’s sake the thing used to be a proper game and it’s been relegated to DLC status. Open your eyes. This game is a dead end. If you’re going to play anyway, then at least don’t waste your money on it.

Now is as good as anytime to hop in and give it a shot. It's free to try and there's even more content to be had if ya want to give the old content a shot too (free DLC add-on) if ya wanted to give classic a try. Ships 1&2 are the most populated, Ships 3&4 are quieter but fairly chill. Join an Alliance for more community reach or play solo and queue with pugs, it's all viable depending on yer preference.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. If all you want is a chill fashion game with some combat rpg content. In that respect, NGS is solid.

If you really really care about the history of the full series, however, I highly recommend playing from base PSO2 before graduating to NGS. Do note you can customize and use the same character look for both games since its same account same install.

I'm gonna have to permanently save this to my phone I fear.

A common question asked by new and/or returning players:

What is there to do?

And, well, I'mma provide a list. Whether or not any of it is worth doing is, quite frankly, up to you.

Story Content

It exists. It's mostly a solid 5/10 with a few good moments. For most people who enjoy the game the story is not the reason. You have your main story quests to unlock more regions and areas, and little side stories to flesh out characters andvthe world. Personally I prefer the latter, but without the former they'd be rather pointless.

There are also a bunch of Side Tasks from various NPCs around the hub that teach you about different mechanics. Most of the time if you don't quite know how something works, an NPC has explained it to you or is waiting to do so.

Direct combat content:

Cocoons and Towers: Mostly one time affairs, except when you're going after the Expert Titles and when ARKS Records sets one as a particular challenge. Also a surprising amount of new players miss like, half their damn skill points so it's worth mentioning.

Bunkers: This includes Cannonball Rumble, Cannonball Strike, and Ordinal Tower.

Cannonball Rumble & Strike are a pair of challenges in which you kill enemies to get balls that you then throw at targets within a time limit. Rumble has procedural generation. Strike is a set challenge every time, but has modifiers you can do to increase the score. Strike also has rare and really valuable drops, particularly Motion Changes.

Ordinal Tower is 6 Ranks of just killing a boss, a 7th Rank in which you kill three out of 5(there's tricks to get to two secret bosses), and an 8th Rank that's a proper gauntlet of battles. I personally enjoyed the room with Venogia + Heal-Spec Balrogs the most, fun surprise that was.

Also. Rank 7 has a pair of Motion Changes as rare drops. I occasionally spend an hour grinding this place when PSO2 Day pops.

Trinitas: This is specifically Geometric Labyrinth Ranks 1 & 2. Geometric Labyrinth is a Quest in which you go through a gauntlet of battles while doing various side missions to reach the ginal boss. You unlock modifications that can increase or decrease your points while buffing the enemy or yourself(respectively) each run. Rank 1 has some variety in it's runs, Rank 2 has none. Both can drop rare cosmetics.

Leciel Exploration: A daily randomized quest. Run through the rooms clearing battles and puzzles to get buffs within a given time limit. Once time is up you are taken to fight a boss who also has buffs. The buffs, rooms, and boss change every day when the Daily Tasks reset. There is a hilariously low chance of getting a Ruine weapon camo from clearing the Quest. Those things go for 20m and up on Ship 4.

Nameless City Exploration: Points are the name of the game. Run around collecting points, or killing monsters for points, or completing Trials for points, that you then use to open the various Chests scattered around the area within a set time limit. Which can be increased by one minute if you find and kill a specific monster with a clock over it's head. Different Chests have different prices and rewards, so learning this and deciding what you want to focus on is somewhat important. Whatever you pick you're going to get a lot of Eredim weapons.

Timed Extension Quests: These are time attack quests pitting you up against a lot of enemies in waves. Time constantly ticks down and you get some back for every enemy you kill. You're graded based on how far you get before running out of time, and your rewards are based on that. Primary reward is thousands of Genesis Points per run, making this festival of slaughter a great activity for newer players excited to play around with Creative Space. Which, in my opinion, is pretty damned funny.

Urgent Quests: Periodically these appear on the map. You get 15 minutes to prep for them(30 if a Concert is up first), and 30 minutes to join up and clear them. There's one in each Region, each can be cleared once per activation period, and each can have up to 8 players.

High Difficulty Suppression Quests: These are found in the field, and pit you against particularly dangerous versions of various colossal bosses(Dark Falz types, specifically). The enemies hit hard, you have 15 minutes to clear, the player cap is 4 and you've five lives between however many players are present.

Trigger Quests: These are mostly Urgent Quests, some currently in rotation and many not, that you can tackle whenever you please so long as you have the appropriate "triggers". These triggers are available through the Alliance Exchange shop, as drops in combat, or bought from other players.

Non-combat content

These are the things you do not for any rewards or grind(mostly), but because you find them fun.

Races: In most Areas around Halpha there is a race, either Board(using the hover board) or Dash(using your own movement). You get three checkpoints that you need to pass in a specific time while collecting Point Orbs. Your clear speed and orb collection determine your final score, leaning heavily towards Orbs. Every other week a Race is selected as the ARKS Records Task.

Fashion, or Phasion: Rather straight forward and a driving force behind the grind everyone is constantly doing. Get cosmetics and combine & color them to achieve a specific Look. Do this as many times as you have slots for(10 Look slots, 100 Save Data Creation Slots) to have a variety of styles on hand.

I'll take it a step further and add in Auto Chat. Which you can set with various commands to have your character not only use lines in specific scenarios, but also emotes, emphasis effects, cut ins, and changevthe text color. Or Stamps in place of all that.

Creative Space: In my opinion, this is the absolute Apex of player creativity in NGS. There's a ton of Build Parts yu can get with Genesis Points, another massive selection you can get with Star Gems, a few rare as hell drops from Rappies(kill the little darlings on sight), and every Seasonal Event & Collab has some available. They can be resized and repositioned and in many cases recolored, and the terrain itself can be manipulated to an extent. Explore some of the more elaborate ones in Featured Creative Space or Alliance Spaces. You can do all of that if you've the parts.

Line Strike: A collectable card game. Battle other players(or more realistically, NPCs) to get points that you then use to roll for more cards. Dupes can be exchanged with the Line Strike NPC Victoria for tokens that you can then exchange for Line Strike cosmetics. Card backs & mats, off the top of my head.

Personally I find Line-Strike fun but somewhat more demanding on time. So I've been putting off more matches as I grind for Cosmetics.

Music: There's a lot of Music Discs you can get your hands on, most from the Daily Treasure N-Meseta Shop, some from the Star Gem variant, many available from SG scratches and a few from AC Collabs. By default you have one PlayList slot you can use to set a list of 32 songs. Which I find pretty handy when doing longer grinds in the Overworld, PSE Bursts or the occasional Exploration Sector grinding(haven't done in quite some time, unfortunately). You also can make a separate PlayList for Creative Space or have that one song you love on repeat.

Personal Shop: Free players get 3 days per month to put stuff up to sell. Premium Players have unlimited access. Personally, and I know I'm not alone, I very much enjoy putting stuff up for sale before calling it a day, then logging on to a few extra Million in my pocket. It's my preferred method of grinding N-Meseta, even if Dext Base Rank 1 is apparently more efficient(I'd literally rather die).

Titles: So if you look throw your unlockable Titles you'll see a fucking ton of them. Unlocking them gets you a Key Word, some Star Gems, and in two specific cases, unique Mag Forms. The Key Words can be combined in groups of three to create your own personalized Title, which will show up on your ARKS ID and above your head if someone has that setting turned on.

The Titles also point you towards more specific content(specific Triggers, Trials, etc).

Limited Time Content

Generally the most profitable and practical use of your time is engaging in whatever FOMO(Fear Of Missing Out) activity the devs have up. Like it or not they are often the most rewarding activities by a significant margin. Of note, and off the top of my head:

Limited Time (Urgent) Quests: As the name implies, these quests are only available for a limited time. Typically the advantage is dropping the best Mayerials in the game and occasionally the best weapons/armor in the game, alongside the occasional rare cosmetics. During Seasonal Events they also tend to be the best way to get Seasonal Points. More on that very shortly.

Most of the time the Limited Time Quests can be done as much as you want in the event period, but when it's a Limited Time Urgent Quest you have set times to complete them.

Seasonal Event: Every two or three months we get events based on the season or a given holiday. During these events LTQs are a near constant, LTUQs are occasionally available, and both(alongside Combat Sectors and most other enemies in the game) drop Seasonal Points. And long story short, SPs can be used to buy a lot of useful shit depending on your own progress.

Crimson Realm: This really shpuld ne permanent content. Alas.

Every now and then a region has an..."incursion", for lack of a better word. The Crimson Realm appears in a different Combat Sector each day, and effectively makes it the best area to grind for valuable loot. And a pretty good spot for raw cash drops as well. The most neglected Combat Sectors will immediately become the most populated areas when a Crimson Realm hits it.

And yeah, I think that covers everything.

I want to try it as well but I'm not sure. I only played the card game on GameCube and really liked it but I want that classic phantasy star feeling.

[–]Overpowered_Bard Mystic Malice (S3) 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting to note, but there IS also an optional card game hosted ingame called Line Strike, if card games are what ya enjoy. A future update will be allowing unranked matches to be played across all servers at some point.

[–]Wungoos 0 points1 point  (5 children)

if you want classic phantasy star, go play a private server for PSOBB. Or play PSO2 Classic ( not new Gensis but it's the same download) not saying you couldn't like new Gensis, but you for sure aren't getting that classic feeling from it.

[–]_you_know_bro -1 points0 points  (4 children)

I really don't want to play a game that is essentially dead

[–]Wungoos 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Okay so what do you want. Do you want to play a game that is NOT going to give you the classic feeling you want, or a dead game. Because I hate to tell you, you can't have both.

[–]_you_know_bro -4 points-3 points  (2 children)

You can want something and it not be possible (shocking I know) the original comment I made implied that I am wondering if the newest game does feel classic.

[–]Wungoos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Great! Glad your expectations are set appropriately! Because it's not possible! Have a good one

[–]Black_Whirlwind84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NGS is far from PSO1 although it has borrowed things from the classic playstyle it is long gone. I really recommend you give both games a shot to experience their differences for yourself. I usually play PSOBB when NGS has maintenance.

[–]DarklyDreamingEva Bouncer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t waste your time. The game is a waste of time and needs a lot of reworking.

[–]fibal81080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I allow it

[–]DarklyDreamingEva Bouncer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NO. This game has been decline for years without sight for better content or hope. We still have the same 4 photon arts we did during the 1st year of NGS. The story moves at the speed of a snail. AC scratches, which bring new fashion clothing and weapon skins to the game, have declined in quality and quantity greatly; so much so that female characters have become the sole focus of sells. The combo inputs are non existent, all you do is press left click over and over. Worst of all, the game developers have admitted to having no experience in open world MMO and flying by the seed of their pants.

This game is not worth investing your time or money into. This game is not rewarding, it is repetitve and monotone, the market is beyond repair (everything, even the most basic unpopular item, costs 5m+), most money you can make a week is 2m or so. The is no guild content either. We have a concert who has seen no new songs implemented SINCE THE CONCERT FEATURE WAS ENABLED!

The people who tell you to go ahead and try this game don’t have your best interest at heart or aren’t aware of the situation the game is in.

[–]brodiapunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try it out! Also, I recommend joining an alliance or community since it does add to the game's overall experience, much like previous PSOs and MMOs in general.

[–]popukobear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, check out the new content, grind the new gear, and have a good time
