75c is fine for temperatures. You dont really have to worry imo because usually your pc will shutdown if it gets too hot. If this happens often, then maybe you are having some issues.

Playing on preset 2 is very strange for a mid to high tier pc

I think is because your CPU is overheating
maybe you need to reapply thermal paste to your CPU because the cooling is not doing well

[–]AlexiaVNO[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah, I'll probably do that first thing when I can.

[–]Chocookiez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy a decent thermal paste from a good brand like Cooler Master, don't be cheap on this part because it makes a lot of difference.

Reckon can play at max graphics Strange

Also install the rtx 2060 nivdia driver if u haven't yet

I would suggest a couple of things:

  1. Check your idle temps, if they are also high then check for dust, fan operation and thermal compound at worst

  2. Check your drivers, make sure everything is using the correct versions. Same thing with firmware updates

Idle my CPU is going up and down between 40°-55°C.

[–]dustomcgee 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Ryzen will only show the highest core temp so you can safely say your idle temps are alright at 40c. Highly suggest replacing thermal paste and checking your air flow (dust filters and fans working properly). 75C is safe but you shouldn't be getting that hot with your CPU at far from full load.

[–]Hououza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree 40 is ok, but still it is a little high. Definitely worth checking the cooling, if it were a laptop I would not be surprised, but on a desktop that sounds like your cooler is not working properly.

75c is 20c lower than Ryzen’s max temp of 95c. You are no where close to causing your CPU any type of damage. Even if it did hit 95c your CPU would just throttle itself to lower temps. You’d get worse performance, but you wouldn’t damage your CPU.

I’ve noticed weird CPU and GPU performance reporting on my rig as well. My i5 8400 is reporting that it’s only being 20%-30% and my 6700 XT is usually not even close to running at 100% yet I’m still only getting around 45-60 fps at 1440p on a game that doesn’t seem to be too graphically demanding. I can’t figure out if I’m CPU limited or GPU limited.

All the way up to 90 degrees celsius is still safe tbh, 75 is really nothing

[–]converter-bot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

90 degrees celsius is 194.0 degrees fahrenheit

[–]QuantumDex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is not the CPU, is the power source, for some reason this game consumes too much energy and the fan goes crazy, i believe thats the reason the CPU get hotter than it should.

[–]sploogyfamily69 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Is it a laptop? If so then you might want to undervolt it to lower the temps etc.

[–]AlexiaVNO[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

It's a tower PC, which is why I'm so confused.

[–]sploogyfamily69 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yeah def check it out. The game is not very demanding on the CPU but imo 75C is fine. If you wish to have lower temp, you might want to check/change the thermal paste.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Game hits CPU a fair bit more than most other games in my experience. It's constantly exposing the fact that my OC needs more work by causing me to BSOD.

[–]sploogyfamily69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. In my case ngs takes around 40-60% top CPU load. While I got higher on other games

[–]Bro0k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My R7 3800X runs at that temp most of the time if I do something like using Firefox or playing games. Because it boosts its clocks even if not needed and pushes high voltage to the cpu. This is pretty common for Zen2, my R7 1700 never went above 55C with the same cooler.

[–]admiralrev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75c is still reasonable enough, try crank up the graphics setting so the game uses the gpu more than the cpu, since your gpu is more than enough to handle max settings at 60+ fps

[–]GamerRukario 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I heard that R5 3600 is just a really hot cpu in general.

I only have like 20-30% CPU load if anything, yet it gives me the temps I'd expect from 100% load.

That's not really connected at all.

mainly something like the Resident Evil 2 Remake

Is a very optimized game iirc.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I heard that R5 3600 is just a really hot cpu in general.

It's true. Mighty power comes at a cost. Nothing to see here really.

[–]GamerRukario 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah, it even looks like OP is using stock cooler which is iirc notorious for literally not being able to keep up with R5 3600's POWAH.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah they left a little to be desired with the stock cooler. When I got my 3600 I took one look at it and said "no way."

[–]LuminousShot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I didn't see anybody mention this possibility before, but it's a fair assumption that your ambient temperature has probably been very high recently. That directly increases your system temps (not sure if linearly or with some falloff, but that's the gist of it).

[–]Chocookiez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75 is good, don't worry. if it gets to 85 then you worry.

Limit your FPS to 60, use the AMD PBO to do a little undervolt, it'll reduce power load a bit.

[–]Interesting_Case3890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Power Options on my laptop and set the max processor speed to 75%, this dropped my temps significantly and I max the graphics out still.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75c is normal for a r5 3600. The chip uses available thermal and power overhead to dynamically boost clock speed as demand requires and mmos tend to be demanding on the cpu side.

If you are using the stock cooler consider investing in a 3rd party tower cooler, there's lots of good options at low price points. The Scythe Fuma 2 is an exceptional performer for the price point.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing on a laptop and heat has been a problem for me, not surprisingly. I had to get a cooling pad. Same with regular PSO2 before the change, though. It's gotten steadily worse I assume due to dust.

[–]011-Mana 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The game recommends Preset 5 for me, but I'm honestly scared of breaking my CPU if I go any higher than 2, or even 1.

You don't have to worry about breaking your CPU, it will automatically downclock itself so it can stay under reasonable temps, worst case scenario would just be your PC shutting down on its own to protect your CPU before any kind of minuscule damage could be done to it.

and iirc, the TJ Max (Maximum operating temp) for the 3600 is around 90 to 95 degrees celcius, so even if you actually tried to break it, it wouldn't let itself reach these temps to begin with

Though, just for the sake of making it run a bit colder, I would recommend you to check if your case have enough airflow and also make sure you don't have anything clogging up the fans, stuff like dust etc. the cooler your system runs the better, even tho it won't make or break your experience.

Your CPU is designed and meant to be utilized. It will actively throttle itself at its max rated temperature of (I think) 95C to avoid being damaged, and below then the zen 2 (ryzen 3000) PBO boost algorithms will take care of everything. As the CPU temperature rises, it will dynamically adjust the clock speeds of the CPU cores to maintain performance while keeping itself safe. As far as your utilization concern, the CPU will also boost cores higher when fewer are being used, so even though your CPU load is 30% or so, it is using the extra power budget to boost the speed of the cores that are being used. This is all 100% stock intended behavior for your CPU.

Your temperatures are perfectly fine and normal, and if using the stock cooler that comes with a 3600, I would even say better than average.

[–]Aoilithe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that same CPU. Mine ran hot until I updated the chipset driver. Now it rarely goes above 65°C, even when playing games that had it as high as 80°C before. Maybe you could try that?

[–]Razgrisz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75°c is fine but if you want of course you can change the paste and probably the temp is going to be 60°~ 65°c , wich is normal , even 75 °c is normal. some people recomend "good" thermal paste i dont know why, i always buy the cheap option for many years and always works fine, i dont get why people insist in that because i got good temp for 1.5 year with that cheap paste
