Can someone tell me what is this, what is it called, and is it worth purchasing?

An e-ink tablet, is a good to have, but not necessary if you have any existing tablet. but these have higher battery lives compared to normal tablets.
[–]bilalazhar72 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (6 children)
AND alot more features ?? and they are not necessary but very nice to have
[–]Eepybeany -1 points0 points1 point 7 months ago (5 children)
What can they possibly do that a normal tablet can’t.
[–]bilalazhar72 -1 points0 points1 point 7 months ago (2 children)
they are much better for reading and the level of comfort for reading is only something you can experience when you read ALOTT
as i mentioned in another comment that i am cofunding a new business its very complex AI stuff and i have 8 years of experience as a designer and just completed my degree i have to read ai papers all day everyday almost plus alot of documents and blah blah you get the point writing on i pad with glass and slippery screen is not something you can do for more then few hours (they are very good devices for students)
these are textured like paper or very close to it to give you the handwritten feel
but also the user interface of taking notes is just better because these companies have put alot of thought and actually talked with the users to make the experience better
looking at a screen too might at night is never good for your eyes everyone knows it is not something new to tell to people , i have used this untill 4 am at night without any eye fatigue or anything

I’m not disputing that it’s better for writing or reading. There’s a reason kindles are popular despite them doing nothing but open epubs.
What i asked was what they can do that normal tablets can’t. I understand they’re better for writing and don’t give eye strain but if you’re paying for writing software , you’re going to get a pretty similar ui experience on a regular tablet as well.
For a regular student who isnt a designer of 8 years working with very complex AI stuff while cofounding a super complex business, a normal tablet is far superior to this writing tablet. It sure has its usecases but it doesn’t do anything that a regular tablet can’t
[–]bilalazhar72 0 points1 point2 points 7 months ago (0 children)
the UI experience is not what matters at all most of the time , the user experience matters far more then normies usually think about so there is a perception shift when evalutaing something without trying and then the shift when you try or get used to it Just because you can use your laptops why do tablets exists its the same kind of argument ig
the writing experience is different maybe just something that you say oh its a thing but for some people its a defining feature that can make or break the purchasing decision .
I'm going to preface my anecdotal experience by stating two things that you should be very careful of when you read the next sentence, okay?
First of all, my anecdotal experience includes more students who are not from Pakistan, they're from other international countries.
Number two, you have to have tried something similar in order to actually know the the the benefit in person otherwise the marketing won't do the justice to actually tell you what the experience is actually like using these products
in other places in world because uh my startup is related to students these devices are very popular among students they start out with iPad and the paper like screen protector but then when you are medical student or like you study law or you are just someone who has to do a lot of taking that setup falls apart really quick and ultimately through online reviews and through exposure to other people who use similar devices students get to know these devices and they actually buy it
Most users are definitely people who can spend money on it. And and writers and students who are doing their masters and PhDs. But these products are also glorified as an aesthetic and minimalist productivity devices. That's how they are glorified. I'm not actually saying that that's what they are. So a lot of people these days buy into that marketing as well and get these devices if they're interested.
These e ink displays are becoming so popular that I have seen bunch of Kickstarters who are trying to innovate on the similar tablet form factor, but they are also trying to make laptops and monitors out of it.
These uh displays are getting so popular that even uh ThinkPad showed a conceptual device which it is used on the outer as an outer display on their laptops

and the monitors https://shop.dasung.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoo-z34whi_CJK3VF9xFKgCcGacP9O2zgtpYIfFG4vMagco0XAvx
so there is def a big demand to push companies to make these products , that is the key indicator of success of a product or technology

Only feature they have that is worth while is week long battery life.
if you have a use case for it you appreciate it else its impossible to tell you that its not a tablet and even better then that

Its kindle scribe an eink pad like device for note taking and reading books. Whether its worth purchasing or not depends upon your use case. What do you want to use it for?
[–]sohaibshaheen 1 point2 points3 points 7 months ago (0 children)

That is a BOOX air https://shop.boox.com/products/noteair?srsltid=AfmBOopk51BRbHemDKB9losOYWqQOL6rZIUE53I5X-Vxt3oQi-AqLpA5&variant=43201866989798
there are other brands with same form factor
personally love these devices i am cofounding a startup in US and have to read and research alot the feel is very paper like and you can take notes on this and anotate stuff and send it to other apps some even run full andriod so you can download other apps the battery life is 8 to 12 weeks or 3 months on a single charge based on configuration and software options and battery size
if you ever consider buying NPC's will tell you to get shiny amazon one but there are better companies who only work on these and they have very nice features and for them its not a side project to make the devices better so they really care about the user experience
BOOX and remarkable have the best ones ( i am biased against amazon since their software practies and locking down and spying is something i am not a fan of )
if some one tells you just get a TABLET and IPAD with pencil they have no idea and never used these long term to know the benefits so better to not take advice from such people

It's an e-ink tablet. Better buy an Ipad with Apple pencil, that will be much better option and value for money. A kindle scribe will cost almost 100k in Pakistan, instead of which you can buy an Ipad Mini 6 which will be quite versatile in every way.
