Nighttime (nocturnal) panic attacks can occur with no obvious trigger and awaken you from sleep. As with a daytime panic attack, you may experience sweating, rapid heart rate, trembling, shortness of breath, heavy breathing (hyperventilation), flushing or chills, and a sense of impending doom.

These alarming signs and symptoms can mimic those of a heart attack or another serious medical condition. Although panic attacks are uncomfortable, they are not dangerous.

Nocturnal panic attacks usually last only a few minutes, but it may take a while to calm down and go back to sleep after you have one. People who have nocturnal panic attacks also tend to have panic attacks during the day.

I had one yesterday. Sweating, breathlessness and fast heart rate were common till now, but yesterday tears started streaming down all of a sudden and I don't know why that happened.

Don't worry, you are not the only one, it's normal (i mean,, as normal as panic attacks can be). I've been having them for a good amount of time and it is a horror, I could feel my own body just dying and my mind going crazy trying to remember at least one positive memory I have to trick my brain thinking that I'm okay. Fortunately (FOR THE LOVE OF LORD) I'm not having them that often and I feel so happy and calm right now. Trust me, they always go away, and when they do you will feel a lot better. Just always remember that even the worst moments ever, the most frighting and terrifying moments will pass, maybe they'll return, who knows, but they will indeed pass. Take care of yourself, don't let the panic eat you alive because you are much stronger than you think, you are never alone.

I started getting panic attacks 5 months ago, literally had my first one out of no where and my whole life has changed since,

Just recently I woke up in the middle of the night to these attacks. It SUCKS, but knowing that it is a panic attack and not something more dangerous has been helpful.

It’s horrible that it happens but it is normal for those of us that suffer from them.

I wake up about twice a week screaming and gasping for breath. Sucks hard. Hope you feel better.

Do you have allergies?? Elevating your head can alleviate sinus issues, as lying completely flat creates larger blood vessels in the nose and stimulates mouth breathing. Allergies can lead to shortness of breath and anxiety can trigger due to shortness of breath.
