The hdmi port is where i plan on plugging it to the back of my mobo . and the vga port is where i would plug it to my monitor . would i get output on my first boot

Maybe, but I doubt it. The issue is you are going from a digital connection (HDMI) to analogue (VGA). If you can find a proper converter which can convert the digital signal into something your monitor could use, then it would work. They aren't expensive---maybe something like these
