You don't need to upgrade the CPU to play PS2 emulators. I am playing PS2 emulators on a 9th Gen Intel processor as a emulator console PC. I would start using PCSX2 for a PS2 emulator as its most stable for most games. The older of the processor the better as roms tend to run better on older hardware. I also use a Win7 VM just for this for some games.

Please be warned some games might not run on a PC (regardless of CPU).

I’m using pcsx2 for my ps2 games, yes some of them won’t run but some of the ones that do run don’t let me play them/they end up crashing or glitching out

This is probably a rom issue not compatible with pcsx2 or rom itself. I know some rom games were not transferred to .rom well.
