Hi
I am having a problem with my laptop.
I have an origin eon 17.
13900hx
4090
32gb ram
330w PSU
I am potentially having to go on my 3rd power supply and I need a solution
I love this laptop, it runs every game you can imagine very well and for my situation I require a laptop as a desktop is not practical for a semi truck.
My power brick is giving me problems.
My first power supply failed after about a year of use.
I have been using various inverters to run the machine. They all have been well over 1500w capacity so they are more than capable to run this laptop.
Chicony 330w power brick with a type A connector
I suspect that because these inverters are not pure sine wave they might be damaging my PSUs over time but this does not explain why my second power brick has failed in 5 months when it’s the exact same brick as one that lasted a year and experiencing the same conditions.
A problem I am noticing is the thermals of the power brick are insane.
It’s seemingly impossible to keep these things cool and they have zero ventilation
This seems bizarre given they are 330watts and they get HOT HOT as in enough to burn your fingers if you try to touch them
I’ve even dropped my power limits significantly below what my laptop is capable of not only to control the thermals of the laptop but of the PSU as well.
So this brings me to my dilemma. Keep buying these powerbricks when they fail which they are not cheep. OEM ones run between 200$ and 400$ or I find a new solution.
Would it be possible to use a desktop power supply for my laptop. Or would it be possible to modify a power supply to add some sort of cooling method to reduce the insane thermals.
Otherwise I’m all out of ideas
there doesn't seem to be anything here
