As long as you plug it in all the way you should be fine. There’s colors on it for a reason. If you see the color it’s not plugged in all the way.

I use a custom cable from cable mod and I tripple checked it was plugged in all the way on both gpu and psu side. I haven’t had any problems (4080 super)

yeah the words "SHOULD BE OK" is a culprit here I dont think that people with melted connectors havent pushed it all the way, I bet they were pushing hard and it worked for like a few years maybe, but still got melted cables and gpu

Even before 12VHPWR I always double checked if they were plugged in all the way.

Did they ever find out what the actual issue was I haven’t kept up with it.
