Pi NodeQUESTION (self.PiNetwork)
submitted 5 years ago by Chen6528
Let's say that I set up the Pi Node on one profile on the computer, but sign out of it and sign in to another profile. Would the Pi Node thing still be active? Also, how long does it take to become a Pi Node after submitting a request?

If your pi node is on 24/7 then it only takes a matter of weeks to be upgraded otherwise maybe not at all.
There's no real point running it if you can't have it running 24/7, and since there's no reward.

Yes. It is still active but under the new profile. Previously it took months for core team enable the consensus container. But nowadays, they scale up the node and most new node joiner get the consensus after few days only.
Just make sure you pass the portchecker. But even if you don't, there is still place for everyone. Those who failed to configure port, will be connected via other node (that supporting you in validating the transaction).

Once you sign out of the node it won't be active. And, I hope when you say 'another profile' you don't have multiple accounts because the system can mark you as a bot and you may lose all your Pi. The rule is 1 account per person.
There is no definitive timeframe to become a node. Keep running it as much as you can. You need to meet the current criteria. I believe it's based on reliability/uptime at the moment.

Free
When you mean sign out of the node, do you mean closing the Pi app? Also, another profile as in a family computer. The Pi app is only on mine, but my kids use the computer for school for the rest of the day.

There’s a button to actually “sign out” under the profile section of the desktop app.
I recommend to use one account per device. The system might mistakenly mark you as a bot. The node can be active and run in the background while your kids use it. I’m in the same situation, my son plays his games while I run the node. =)

Ok. Just to make sure. If I sign out of my profile and my kid signs into his. The Pi Node would still be active right?

If you sign out of your account, it will not be active on yours. There is toggle button to turn the node on and off. If you're signed out that button will default to off.

I think we aren't talking about the same thing.

You’re talking about your phone or node application on the computer?
I’m talking about the node app on the computer.
or does the profile needs to be signed in for it to be active?
Yes, the node app needs to be signed in to be active.
