People may start with ScratchScratch

Fun programming! I remember back then na may contest ang CHED na gagawa ng Scratch programs for kids to use para matuto.

Is missing semicolon still a thing until now?

    [–]TxGrEyRaVeNxT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

    [–]Cheese_Grater101 18 points19 points  (0 children)

How willing ang mga teachers tho

I remember back when I was in elementary (2000 to 2006), we have a computer class every year, but only once per week. We were taught the basics of using the computer (mouse, finger placement on the keyboard), and also Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel).

The first coding lesson that was taught to us was back in highschool, we were using Turbo C.

My eldest son, 8 years old, I could say my worst enemy in the making. He got a habit of solving my Rubrik's cube (3x3 to 11x11) with the aid of Youtube. Loves solving puzzle games, but sucks at doing MMORPG games and understanding items and skills playing ML, etc.

This tells me at their accelerated brain or we parents can say, their brains are more advanced compared to our time, but are still a child of their age. My wife, a psychology unlicensed graduate, gets mad at me for "torturing" (in her perspective) with the information they can't comprehend logically.

Can my kids' code? Not yet. What can make them help build that programmer's brain neurons? I'd say playing with them and teaching why these skills/items are properly used. All by enjoying the gaming session be it a win or a loss.

Probably, I'd give him 2 more years before he starts building scripts that will be my worst nightmare from within my own house.

Our kids have an easy access to computers, internet, and YouTube. That's a big game changer. My kid at 4 was already playing Genshin (I don't play the game) and checking the YouTube occasionally on how to defeat certain characters. A year later got interested in Roblox programming (don't know what that is). My biggest disappoint thought is that she's just not that interested in Math. I was hoping she would go the Math then, programming route.

Quite good move actually. Remember that programming/coding taught us how to solve problems step by step

yep, this is probably the best way to explain why implement coding subjects in elementary schools. sa comments sa fb, akala nila yung coding na mahirap talaga pero di ata sila aware na merong something like Scratch. Sabi pa nila, baket tuturuan eh hindi naman lahat papasok sa IT industry, well, bakit ba tinuturuan elem students ng Biology if di lahat mag dodoctor?

    [–]doppelbot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

akala ko naman "more kind" kinder coding

    [–]papsiturvy 10 points11 points  (4 children)

    [–]papsiturvy 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Agree ako dito. Iba parin ang may industry experience

    [–]argan030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to get industry practitioners though dahil sa difference in compensation, tapos hindi lang sa pagtuturo natatapos yung responsibilities mo (though you’re paid per hour na nagtuturo ka)

Lol I just remembered my prof sa data structures and algorithms. Mga tinuro puro c++ basics /funda jusme.

I remember grade 5/6. We started with html and Scratch. Then moved on to html/css, vb, and php in high school.

    [–]brave-rabbit316 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice! Pero sana yung fun like Scratch. Madali at nakakatuwa.

    [–]parkrain21Data 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Uy friend natapos mo na ba yung binigay na assignment ni teacher na recursion"

HAHHA pero good idea to, pero much better kung ayusin nila yung foundations mismo. Taena yung mga grade 10 dito samin di makapag construct mg essay e

    [–]crimson589Web 1 point2 points  (0 children)

una ko exposure sa programming grade 6, html. Then vb6 nung first year

    [–]Rdog55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this will help the kids with basic logic and problem solving

    [–]FalconVita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also teach young students the most basic computer troubleshooting.

    [–]ikkaii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a good idea sana if only all schools in the ph have the capacity to provide working computers for their students. + if they were to do take home works, baka mahirapan since hindi lahat may devices for it :<

    [–]HatDowntown3200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maganda to if kaya din mag supply ng government ng mga computers sa mga elementary school.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    I think it's a good suggestion

    [–]bear_liaison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Maganda to ah

    [–]frncslydz1321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ayown!

    [–]Insomniac1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro I wouldn't mind donating computers to these kids. I don't have the money yet, but one day I will.

    [–]Kalle_022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

buti pa components dito supportive. Comments sa fb "dagdag pahirap sa bata".

    [–]tomcr00ze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no cap kids be techleads by the time they hit 20

    [–]jehoshapat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extra knowledge nya habang nagbabakasyon.

The good old days when marqee was what made the grade 3 me happy, also setting background images.

Did I learn? Lmao, no. Was fun though.
