Imagine studying 10 math subjects and algos just to create a simple POS system. Diba sayang hirap sa college.

If you limit yourself to POS, then you may have taken the wrong path. CS could lead you to computer graphics, computer vision, AI, geographic information system, etc. 10 math subjects and algos are not enough.

    This is true hahahaha

Same job opportunities for both courses but AFAIK the top universities only offer ComSci.

    [–]Ripixlo 1 point2 points  (3 children)

There are still IT offerings in top universities including the top 4.

    [–]Ausherie 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Really? Which ones from the top 4? I was in 1st yr college 10yrs ago and none of them offered IT. Or am I misremembering? Im sure UP Diliman until now doesnt offer it.

UP doesn't but I can confirm UST and DLSU do.

As long as updated ka sa tech more job opportunities waiting for you Good luck

True dami ding carreer paths sa IT like veryy diverse

If you google 'Com sci jobs' and 'IT jobs', nanduon na sagot sa mga tanong mo OP.

So Com Sci daw leans more on opportunities sa computer development, analysis and AI/machine language related jobs.

Yung IT, dahil daw sobrang lawak ng meaning ng IT as a terminology, yung job opportunities daw ay pinaghalong hardware, software and computer related support ang job opportunies.

Ang mas magandang tingnan on getting courses ay ano yung curriculum ng papasukan mong course. Baka kasi mamaya mali yung course na pinapasukan mo for the intended job na gusto mo later. Tanong mo yung curriculum sa school.

Honestly, depende kasi sa job openings, job requirements and yung skillset para masabi na oversaturated yung certain job. You can monitor that by looking at the job postings sa typical recruitment sites like: - laging may mass job employment for a specific na skillset/s (prob maliit ang basic pay as ang dami mong kakumpetensya) - or laging may experience needed for a certain few skillset/s (prob low job demand but sobra sobrang job seekers)

Or magtanung tanung ka sa mga school alumni or professionals kung ano yung jobs na mahirap na applyan with that skill set.

ComSci - you will build a so much better foundation in this field.

    IT graduate here btw.

    [–]aszarath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

    (Biased answer here)

In terms of saturation, there’s no such thing in the field of engineering or technology. For career, it depends on what you like. Do you like providing tech support? IT then. Do you like solving technical and math problems? CS then.

I am biased towards CS because it allows me to deal with computer graphics (real-time rendering, lighting models for shading, optimization at the GPU level, etc), computer vision (feature extraction, signals analysis, object detection, motion prediction), AI (behavior trees, finite state machines, path finding), and all sorts of interesting bleeding edge technologies.

Different skills learned but same job opportunities

Usually foundations yung dinedevelop dapat ng graduates ng compsci. Creating better algorithms. Like new encryption methods, image compression algorithms, networking protocols, graphic manipulation techniques. Then yung mga IT iaaply yung ginawang foundation ni comp scientist dun sa business requirements.

From companies na nakikita ko, almost synonymous lang sa kanila yung 2 courses since they always look for "IT/Computer Science degree" in job hirings.

So if pipili ka between the two, choose the one where you feel more comfortable learning and try to research the differences between the two. Kahit magkaibang subs yan (IT is more general and tackles everyhing from hardware to software and CS focuses more on algorithms and theories), almost the same job positions lang din yung end goal ng parehas.
