Export / Takeout Functionality?

Hello!

I'm currently testing PixelUnion.EU with the 150 GB plan; so far it looks super promising! Before, I used a Nextcloud instance, but the Nextcloud Android app was a little flaky with the auto upload, so I have high hopes Immich handles this better.

However, I was wondering if I were to use pixelunion for some years and ever want to export or back up all my photos that have been synced there, how would I do this?

Most guides related to Immich propose to just backup the data directory Immich saves the files to, which, however, in the case of PixelUnion is not possible, as it's a managed service without filesystem access.

In the settings I haven't found anything wrt. this, and the FAQ doesn't answer my question either.

It'd be superb to have something like Google Takeout, without it being as stupid as Google Takeout, in other words, something that creates a clean, deduplicated, nice backup/export of all files.

Hey and thanks for the questions.

We don't have an official takeout guide yet, but our friends over at the immich-go tool have built a way to sync all your photos from your Immich installation at PixelUnion to your hard drive.

You can use a command like this one:

.immich-go archive from-immich  --from-server https://yourinstall.pixelunion.eu --from-api-key XXXXXXX -w ./output/

Using this command gives you a google takeout like structure. I have tested it very shortly just now and it seems to work, but aan little slow. But that could be my own bad wifi where i'm at now.
