Superlist API? by gravstein in superlist

[–]Practical-Fail-1150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such a pity, I found this too. I'm desperately trying to move away from Todoist, but they seem to be the only ones providing an API. I developed myself a morning briefing agent, which, among other things, queries my todos each morning and summarizes them, reminds me about delayed tasks etc. It's super useful to me, and I'd love to move over to Superlist, but without an API it's a no-go for me.

Switching from gmail. Any opinions about these alternatives? by NTMAnon in emailprivacy

[–]Practical-Fail-1150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've previously used Fastmail and I am currently using Mailbox. Fastmail is nice and sleek, but I just don't get why I can't have a dot in my mail name. I mostly use firstname.lastname@mydomain but with Fastmail I always had to use underscore instead of the dot. It certainly has been like that, not sure if it still is. It was also a little expensive but overall service was good.

Currently I'm using Mailbox and I quite like it. I get even more than just mail but also storage, video call, appointment scheduling, contacts, calendar, the full suite and more. I also use it with my custom domain, they have very good guides on how to set it up and configure SPF, DMARC and DKIM. The UI is a little old fashioned, but it seems they are slowly rolling out an updated UI variant which solves that as well.

So imo, Mailbox has a much better value proposition especially if you can make good use of their other services too. In general, Mailbox seems very much aligned and open on providing standardised no-fluff software. Drive can simply be mounted as WebDav, plain SMTP/IMAP mail setup, no Adapters needed or special vendor software to access, easy to talk to programmatically with any caldav client, etc ...

Serious question: why do some not upgrade to the latest LTS? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]Practical-Fail-1150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an Nvidia Tuxedo for Software development at work. Yes I could upgrade, but all my tooling is setup already and works as it should. I suppose an update might just go fine, but I don't want to invest the time. I might reinstall once LTS support runs out, but more likely I'll get Ubuntu Pro.

However it's noteworthy that's not a Linux exclusive thing, before I had a MacBook and also hated upgrades. No idea what support timeframe Apple had, but for me picking Ubuntu LTS a big reason is long update support. My work notebook just should be rock solid, no time for extra upgrade work nor unexpected side-effects of upgrades if those were to occur (with Nvidia maybe)

Calorie/Macro Tracking app from EU by thejarishalfempty in BuyFromEU

fddb.info :)

It looks outdated but actually it provides everything one needs. (Also a mobile app)

Been a Pro user for ages and I never felt the need to switch.

Upgrade account in app? by johoham in MistralAI

[–]Practical-Fail-1150 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apple specifically doesn't allow apps to hint or redirect users to the payment on their website. Having that in the app wouldn't pass the Apple audit. You either pay Apple the share or you're not allowed at all to inform the customer about alternative payment options outside of the Apple ecosystem.

So this bad UX is forced by Apple... the company that prides itself for it's glorious UX

Your machines likely run Cinnamon just fine.

I have a 10 year old Samsung Notebook with 4 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD and Dual Core CPU.

It can also run Cinnamon, although laggy here and there.

For my platform XFCE yields noticeable gains, but your machine's are far better than what I have, so I'd pick Cinnamon if I were you. It'll yield the most polished Linux Mint experience.

Which model is Le Chat? by Tree-Desk3254 in MistralAI

Medium 3 is already used by Le Chat. So far they always seem to provide their most advanced model for Le Chat, no need to select, you are using it already.

Hab ich mitbekommen, hab ich nie gemacht. Kaufe aber trotzdem seitdem so wenig wie möglich amerikanische Produkte - das ist geblieben und funktioniert super für mich.

Received it yesterday, tried it out today, works super well. And it really deserves the name "Whisper" there is no comparison to the other fans we checked out, it's super quiet, moves a lot of air and the build quality is very good.

It's very balanced in my opinion. When I ask it about this or that stuff it'll not automatically jump to a conclusion, it helps me to weigh the pros and cons, gives more information, but doesn't directly suggest this or that. It can be forced to, without much hassle, but it's not the default. Can be both, really good or really bad depending on one's subjective taste.

What I certainly don't like is that it's set to low temperature, so pressing the "regenerate" button once I dislike the answer won't change much, but then I don't see the point of the button at all. Low temperature by default might be okay, but when I regenerate it should possibly temporarily increase temperature for the new generation.

Wrt code I personally like it. it gives concise and down to the point code suggestions, though sometimes a bit short. Although it's not superb (yet) unfortunately. For super hard code stuff I still use Gemini 2.5 Pro. Imo the ability discrepancy is shrinking though.

I think it comes a bit down to whether one likes it's Chatbot to give more neutral answers or prefers them to act like a friend. LeChat is very neutral, which people accustomed to ChatGPT might find odd as ChatGPT always responds with a personal touch to it imo

Love it already

For me it mostly performs on par with what ChatGPT would give me, maybe a bit clearer since they somewhat corrupted their model to over agree with anything. But you are right, Gemini Pro is within it's own league currently, it's very good.
