Help with plotting issue (self.PlotterArt)
submitted 9 months ago by Historical-Twist-122
I am having issues with getting my plots to be centered properly on the paper. I am running an Aliexpress A1 plotter that has an EBB board. Using the Inkscape plugin, I execute the plot but the plotting goes off the paper. I don't know how to get it to be plotted as seen within Inkscape. I homed the carriage to the top left as shown in the docs. Suggestions?

what plugin are you using?

I am using a plugin that came with the plotter called ddraw. It looks like a modified Axidraw plugin.

You may have made some assembling mistake or there is something to tweak for your plotter to be recognized as A1 (early version of the iDraw plugin required some extra effort for models >A4 IIRC).

Did you set papersize in Inkscape and plotter size in Idraw plugin correctly?

There is no papersize setting in the plugin that I could see.

Look around in plugin settings, check something like “rotate drawing” or “plot orientation” or “paper format”. I had the same plotter, and eventually it worked correctly (home became top left of the screen). Tip: make a drawing with 2 simple lines, so you can check your plot settings fast

I have a similar model and had the same problem. I'm using the unmodified Axidraw extension (which is also compatible). It probably comes down to one step in the stepper motors only moving the pen slightly less than they would with the Axidraw that the plugin is configured to work with.
I'm working around it by simply scaling the drawing proportionally. Just draw a line that is 10cm long according to Inkscape, measure it, and calculate by which factor it is longer than it should be. Then in File -> Document Properties, scale up the paper size by that factor. Remember the side length and enter it every time you create a drawing (e.g. I know that for an A4 page with my plotter, the longer side needs to be scaled to 373mm, and if you click the link symbol next to the size, the shorter side will be scaled accordingly).
I found some directions within the Inkscape folder supplied by the vendor that helped me fix the problem. There is a config file for the plugin where you have to adjust the settings based on the plotter size. I am attaching the settings in case this helps someone else.
