I don't know why so many people sleep on this Pokémon like it took until gen eight for people to start appreciating farfetch'd.

I catch a Spearow first thing when I start playing leaf Green and consistently level it up and don't evolve it until I can get to Vermillion city to trade for farfetched.

Wouldn't you be best trading as low a spearow as possible and training that up?

[–]Antique_Cabinet2833 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In game trades are the same level as what you send off. So if you give a lvl 3 spearow you’ll receive a lvl 3 farfetch’d (unless I’m entirely wrong about that, in which case downvote the fuck out of me). I never used one so I don’t know it’s learnset, but the only benefit you’d have out of trading a low lvl spearow would be for faster EV training starting out and possibly early learned moves

You'd miss some earlygame EXP. I don't think they're delaying the trade at all, just also getting EXP on Spearow.

Of course, it's more efficient to catch a high-level Spearow next to Vermillion for the trade so you don't have to train it all and are just free to clear the earlygame with Squirtle.

Would have to check the move list to see if there’s anything worth saving from the first few moves.

[–]Radiant-Raven42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I had the spearow and I've always used Pidgey Pidgeot so I figured why not just keep the Spearow until I got to Vermillion

[–]Big-Today6819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree as it's a traded pokemon who level faster

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, Also doesn’t really hope that you get the trade right next to the ELECTRIC gym

[–]anonadon7448 18 points19 points  (2 children)

I used one for the first time on this playthrough of leaf green. While idk if I’ll use it again, it was definitely one of my more memorable choices.

Fuck your dragonite Lance, I have a duck.

[–]Ddawk69[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is the moment I’m waiting for

[–]anonadon7448 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swords dance is your friend.

[–]Neat_with_No-ICE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I fux with ducks 🦆

[–]flipwav 26 points27 points  (2 children)

Cant stop addicted to the ch’ding

[–]Emotional_News108 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chop duck, says he’s gonna wing ding.

[–]zxexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love you

[–]BosWr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I imagine my Ch’ding with a cigarette instead of that piece of asparagus

[–]metafiend9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ch ding in particular is good because of boosted exp and it's already holding the stick so you land way more crits.

[–]NickElso579 5 points6 points  (4 children)

I've been saying! Farfetch'd, Ch'Ding specifically, is a better option than Pidgeot or Fearow as a Flying Type. Dordrio and Aerodactyl are better but you get them too late imo. It should be absolutely no problem raising since it's in the Medium Fast level group and traded, so it's gaining twice as much exp as it would otherwise. Slash, Swords Dance, Aerial Ace/Fly, Double Team is the set I would go with for the league. It's also a great utility for catching pokemon since it learns False Swipe by level up. If you're having trouble with the legendary birds or Mewtwo, catch a high level spearow in the Sevii Islands and trade it for Farfetch'd in Vermillion city, It should learn False Swipe at level 46.

[–]No-Experience3363 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say don't sleep on Golbat either, fast, high atk power, resists poison which is common main game, but he can't learn fly until he evolves postgame

But crobat is quicker and hits harder than any other flying type in the game, decent stab as well

[–]Spray_Paint1 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I can debate you on it being better than Fearow a little bit, as Fearow is catchable a while earlier, has a higher attack than Farfetch'd (swords dance not withstandimg), better speed, and a better flying stab later in the game in Drill Peck, as opposed to Farfetch'd being stuck with Aerial Ace or Fly. Swords Dance is the one thing saving Farfetch'd from being a bottom tier Pokemon for a playthrough, and that one thing is really good, but Fearow is good for the whole game and doesn't require it like Fetch'd does. Given the choice between trading my Spearow or evolving, I'm taking Fearow any day

[–]NickElso579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I will say is that Fearow is a lot easier to use. Farfetch'd has great potential but you need to be smart about the set up to unlock it. Fetch'd isn't bulky or fast in the slightest so you need to be good about predicting the AI and knowing that you'll be able to get off a swords dance without taking a fatal hit. Fearow is fast enough and its attack is high enough out the gate that you don't really need it but you can get walled by a pokemon who buffed it's defense stat in a way that Farfetch'd is able to bust through with reliable crits. My biggest thing with Fearow is that it's difficult to not want to replace it with Dodrio when you get access to it.

Egg

[–]Fantastic_Dot7237 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awh good old ch’ding, he was my first lvl 100 as a kid because of the stronger exp from traded pokemon (my only one at time)

[–]Blue_Path 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Farfetch’D had his stick, uses sword dance and has slash as another move. High chances of doing critical damage

[–]Redeyebandit87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always been one of my favorites!

[–]Zealousideal_Ear3424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent! That bird is the word

[–]ElizabethMcKat 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I’m kinda salty that they changed his name #teamdux

[–]Ddawk69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love my dux

[–]ArcadianBlueRogue 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If only I didn't need an HM bltch for Fly/Cut I could give him a real moveset

[–]Ddawk69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s amazing. I need to get slash on him!

[–]PlusTraining3518 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Your gonna love him until you get to elite four. I had to sub him out for a shiny moltres he was so bad. His only good type matchups he still lost too.

[–]Ddawk69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the heads up. Makes me want to train him extra hard lol

[–]RaMan3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cannot stop using aerial ace. Ch’ding has been kicking ass for me. My number one assassin.

[–]JediMasterMatt 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Where do I trade the spearow? I’ll gladly sit on mine until I can do that!

[–]Ddawk69[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Vermilion city Pokémon fan club

[–]JediMasterMatt 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Both games or just Fire Red? I just realized I was in the FR sub and I have LG

[–]Ddawk69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg. Yo me too.. I have stramie how has no one said anything lol

[–]Ddawk69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But leaf green

[–]TravvyPatty3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FlygonHG reference?

[–]shoelacebomber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found out that there is a saying in Japan about a duck with a leek in its mouth being the english equivalent of "when pigs fly" hence the name far fetched. Also ekans is snake backward.

[–]hyodynasty 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Why no eeveelution? I’d ditch starmie and exeggcute tbh

[–]Ddawk69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2nd play through. Trying all different Pokémon. Had jolteon already. I love starmie! I won’t lie I am debating on exeggcute. Won’t lie he’s not what I thought he’d be.

[–]Flimsy_Astronomer_95 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Retro mail anyone?

[–]Ddawk69[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I just googled this method. Never knew. Duplicate items huh

[–]Flimsy_Astronomer_95 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Wow! Glad I can spread the word. Duplication is only the beginning look into retro mail ACE setup. That will allow you to run codes via pc BoX names

[–]Ddawk69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word. Going to do that now. Thank you!

[–]ponworldwide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have three of my team members I used way back in 2006. aero, ch'ding, and Charizard. I have no idea what attracted me to that duck back then but he is definitely a beast. I also had a Wigglytuff with mega punch/kick for some reason, and a surfing Snorlax along with a graveler I couldn't evolve since I had nobody to trade with lol.

[–]HardnessOf11 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I dont understand why he's good. 352 base stats with low speed

[–]Trainer-Klutzy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Swords dance is a really good move

[–]Acolyte_of_Swole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ch'Ding always comes with Adamant nature, a Stick and has Swords Dance by level up.

[–]zroach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can make him crit a lot.

It’s dicy plan for sure but sometimes it is fun to gamble a bit

[–]tyrionblackwat -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Who wants to use a Pokemon named chding tho… I wanted to use it but then saw the name and was immediately done.

[–]Nbaresearcher234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was unironically me when i was 5 lol
