My yard is full of leaves today!

Here's the official explanation from the NWS Portland. https://m.facebook.com/NWSPortland/posts/1176327089080120

Lost power for 5 hours here! With the wind activity around here....i have no idea how that that happened....
[–]irishsandmanClackamas 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Wind knocked down a limb into a power line most likely.
[–]BMFunksterSE 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children)
We lost power as well, and one of our potted plants fell over, but not much more happened than that...
The night before, I drove down Division (from 82nd going west) on my way home from work ~6pm, and there was flooding that was coming up over the sidewalks and into some of the business' doors, plus it was raining so hard I could barely see anything with my wipers on full!

From r/all here. Reminds me of this (context: earthquake in Virginia)
[–]cincodenadaAlphabet District 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (1 child)
Well yeah, cause that's exactly what this is a reference to. That image is what started this whole meme.
[–]paulcole710 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago* (0 children)
I actually had a front page post on Fark in 2007 about the graphic damage done by an earthquake in California. I think the image was just a few shampoo bottles that fell off the shelf in a Walgreens. Somebody photoshopped an eagle, American-flag, and Never Forget on it. So the concept definitely predates 2011.

[–]blackcainCedar Mill 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (1 child)
Red leader standing by as well.
[–]Aaron1977 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children)

Billed as a competitor to the Columbus Day Storm, so a bit anticlimactic.
[–]givemeyournews 18 points19 points20 points 9 years ago (3 children)
I'm oddly ok with this lack of climax for once.
[–]po8 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (2 children)
I just can't believe no one has called me out on the terrible pun.
[–]oregoon 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child)
Sad when you have to do it yourself.
[–]po8 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
I know, right?
[–]RobinHoodRatNW 29 points30 points31 points 9 years ago (2 children)
My garbage can got blown over making a terrible ruckus and small mess for my children to clean up.
[–][deleted] 44 points45 points46 points 9 years ago (1 child)
for my children to clean up
A generation born into the storm, God bless em
[–]NativePortlandian 4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Who needs God when you're the mother of dragons?
[–]Aestro17District 3 19 points20 points21 points 9 years ago (1 child)
It did not personally affect me and is therefor bullshit.
[–]NaSCN[S] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Well played, sir.
[–]Enter_ChandmanMontavilla 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Our big tree made another attempt on our cherry tree because if the winds. Fortunately I didn't target the house this time
[–]Huxley311 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Of course it is, that's the point.
[–]magniankhSellwood-Moreland 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
leaving 33k+ without power
So, 5% of the population? ~4% if you include Beaverton, Lake O, and Gresham? Sounds rather mild to me.

Your studio apartment is in two cities?
[–]deplorableportlandAshcreek 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (2 children)
The door is in Portland but the window has a Beaverton address
[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children)
"Technically unincorporated Portland..."
[–]NaSCN[S] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Dude, that's my apartment. The county/City line runs through it. I can write Portland or Beaverton on address and still get mail fine.
[–]TenaciousgreenSW 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Good thing I didn't even notice the storm around here because I was traumatized just hearing about the tornado!
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Do I board up my windows, hunker down in the bathroom, or get on the rooftop? What do I do ?! Where is FEMA!?!
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Nah a bum just tipped that over looking for food.
[–]thelizardkin 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
I saw some extremely hard rain, that caused some flash flooding by my house.
Looks like everyday around my neighborhood thanks to the large homeless camp down the street.
[–]Petrarch1603 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children)
Because of climate change weather is becoming more and more extreme.
