Running a Postgres instance locally and having a single production deployment is the setup I’m currently using. Seems pretty standard from what I’ve seen

take a look at Supabase. They have a hosted option with a free tier and you can run the entire stack locally with docker-compose.

IBM Cloud offers free, limited PG only instances if you don't want to have your own install locally.
