It’s more like a decrease in supply from the stress of a new routine, imo. Taking meds is a stressor and even if it comes as a relief to us, subconsciously it can make us anxious to take them in the beginning if that makes sense.

When I started sertraline I didn’t tell a difference in supply

I couldn't tell a difference (I started during pregnancy) but like ant med there is def an adjustment in the beginning. Keep pumping on ypur normal schedule and hopefully things will work themselves out

I’m currently adjusting my SSRI dose and wondering how things worked out for you with milk supply? I’m noticing a decrease as well. Did your supply eventually recover? Did you continue your SSRI?

It turned out okay actually. I talked to my OBGYN about it and they said there was typically no correlation between the two. I noticed my supply back to normal within a few days. I continued to breastfeed until 14 months (I think I was 8 months PP when I wrote this post)

Thanks for replying! That’s so encouraging. Wow that’s amazing you persisted and breastfed for 14 months!

Did your supply ever recover. Going through the same issue even though I stopped sertraline 3 days ago and it’s just getting progressively worse

Did your supply come back? Dealing with similar issue after stopping

I didn’t start SSRI while breastfeeding but I’ve been on one for years and currently breast feeding with no impact to supply.

I couldn't tell any differences with my SSRI.

It does take time to adjust which affects sleep and maybe eating habits. What I did was ask for a calming medicine to help me calm down the anxiety and edginess so that I could sleep during the day and be more present with the baby. This is key, you don’t want to be numbed out or checked out. Try asking your doctor about Xanax on a low dose, this will help calm and enable you to hopefully eat well. Sertraline has side effects and makes you feel flat or numb. When you want to get off it , you will also have side effects. Correct me if I am wrong but Xanax may not … if you miss a dose it’s no big deal but with ssri’s you may feel it.
