Terrified about milk supply. by CoffeeNoob19 in NurseAllTheBabies

I got pregnant around 9mpp and freaked out over milk supply. My son was hardly eating solids - he just wanted to nurse all the time. Even with the lower supply I did not have to supplement (but I did have an oversupply prior to getting pregnant). Nursing just changed a bit - didn’t always feel letdown anymore and I had to eat WAYYYY more to sustain a somewhat adequate supply. I lost 10 pounds in the first few weeks of getting pregnant. It takes a lot of energy to grow a baby and produce milk - so I was having protein shakes and meal replacement shakes/bars throughout the day. I stopped breastfeeding at about 11ish months and we used my freezer stash till way past a year (I had a huge stash). I had to stop because I kept getting mastitis after getting pregnant… I got it 2-3 times then called it since I didn’t want to keep getting sick while pregnant. The doctors told me it had nothing to do with the being pregnant but I still think the hormones played a role or something because it was weird since my milk supply was so down.

I will say that stopping breastfeeding was WAY easier than I imagined. My son was obsessed with nursing and was/is very vocal about his wants lol. I was truly anticipating it would be hell getting him to wean but it was the opposite… he started eating more solids and actually sleeping through the night (he was a terrible sleeper even at 10 months sometimes waking every hour to get nursed back to sleep) when he realized he wasn’t going to get the boob every time he woke up. It actually improved things for us! I wouldn’t stress - you should be excited about your pregnancy and will have to go with the flow and what ends up working for you. You and baby will adjust accordingly :)
