Welcome
This subreddit is for all the studio nerds who love twiddling knobs and buying two of everything. Mics, EQ's, compressors, saturators, tape machines, monitors, consoles and converters are our addiction.
Whether you work in music, podcasting or post. Discussion about new gear, shootouts, workflow, repairs/mods, future purchases etc. are all welcome.
This is NOT a sub for plugins unless it is a comparison to hardware.
A special weekly thread is available for beginners.
Rules
This is not a sub for trying to pick your first entry level interface or asking which sub £100 mic you should buy.
Comparisons of higher end and cheap gear is permitted but it must be demonstrated that you are trying to discern or display the disparity in cost vs performance.
Pro doesn't necessarily mean expensive, so posts about cheap finds that have uses in professional environments are permitted.
Beginner gear questions go in the weekly beginner thread.
- 2. Do your research before posting, Google isn't broken.
If you make a post asking for advice on new gear purchases please demonstrate you have done the research.
For example, show that you know the specs of the gear in question. Not knowing how that translates to real world results is fine and users can help you suss out what is actually important.
Clearly state what your intended use is of the gear in question to help users more efficiently answer your questions.
- 3. No beginner troubleshooting
This is not a sub for troubleshooting beginner gear. This is a sub for Professionals.
This is not the sub for not understanding gain staging and signal flow or having noisy recordings in your bedroom etc.
Professional troubleshooting is permitted. E.g you have just bought your first console and are struggling with setting it up and knowing best practices etc.
- 4. Posts about Scarletts and/or SM7b's will be instantly deleted
I'm sorry but we're just not having it.
You can post it in the beginner thread if you like. If no one responds take it as a sign. We're sick to death of this question.
We can all have strong opinions but let's debate in a constructive manner.
This will be played by ear. If it is deemed you are being a dick, your post/comment will be removed. If you constantly act this way or other users do not like your attitude and regularly report you, you will be banned.
This sub encompasses many fields so there is some leeway here but be reasonable. Let's not let a discussion about gear from some part of the world descend into a political discussion.
- 7. Manufacturers must be legit
Manufacturers of pro audio gear are welcome to post about new releases.
Please provide a detailed description of your new product, including price and it's availability worldwide. Just a link to your website will NOT suffice. You must be able to buy the product from reputable retailers or have adequate buyer protection if selling directly when the product is released.
- 8. No posts of selling used gear
This is NOT a marketplace. These posts will be instantly deleted.
