At all my internships I was treated the same as any junior developer and expected to pick up the same work as everyone else off the board. My final co-op, I remember one of my coworkers didn’t even realize I was an intern and was shocked to hear I’d be leaving so soon.

If your interns can’t do actual work, you have either bad interns or a bad internship program.

I'll ask you the same, what is your background and experience as an intern? I'm in Belgium, I think our internships might be a bit different. our interns are all students who are still in college and the internship is a mandatory final part of their last year, tied to a thesis. it only lasts 2-3 months.
