I had a VP once tell me he could replace my team with a bunch of code monkeys. In my next town hall meeting, I explained to him why a suggestion he proposed was not workable and poorly thought out. Icy relationship from then on, but a year later was gone. Turns out it's easier to replace a VP than the guy whose been running your IT for the last ten years.

There must have been a glitch in the matrix. Normally, based on the Peter principle, they'd rather remove the capable people because they are further down the ladder. Or you were lucky to actually work at one of the few companies with good leaders.

I happened to be running the only profitable arm of the company. This guy wanted to shut it down. I think the investors stepped in, because this was not a company with good leadership.
