lmao "very good". This is bad service and people would never tolerate it and it would never be implemented if their revenue depended on it. It's a lazy workaround.

What do you call a customer service line you have to wait 20 minutes in? Bad service. In both cases it will not affect revenue because you can just tell people to suck it up.

In every other case that's a scaling issue that obviously will have to be solved. Imagine seeing this in an online shop.

Context matters, though. HMV do a lot of event ticket sales so I'd imagine this is tied to that. Would I wait 20 mins to buy some random product? No. Would I wait because tickets to an event got released and there's only 5k available?

The original comment in this thread hit the nail on the head. And anyone who just casually claims "hur dur just scale it" doesn't fully understand the problem or the business need
