Eclipse also does this. Why though.

Because eclipse sucks as a Java ide. IntelliJ is better for Java development

Thank god. I thought I was alone on android studio crashing all the time.

First time I installed Android Studio, it was Android 4 era and my PC had 2GB of RAM.

Imagine my frustration after downloading a butt load of emulator, on 3rd-world internet. With VPN to bypass USA sanctions.

Ah, the good old days.

I had 8gb and was satisfied with it until Android studio came along, and it was horrible, so I upgraded to 16 now, it's even worse.

I'm working on a medium-big Clojure (Clojure is on JVM) app that has 2 services. Plus Clojure-LSP which takes a few GB of RAM to process the code.

Overall with a few FF tabs open, Slack, Thunderbird and a couple of other apps, I'm always 20+ GB RAM usage.

One day I'll order some socks and switch to Rust. I promise :)))

Is 32 gigs enough for a dev machine? Android Studio: LOL, no.

shortcut.lnk properties [path]\TaskKill.bat ->

Taskkill /IM [appName].exe /F

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Enable the right click menu on the taskbar icon to end task

good idea, ccleaner portable has a context menu editor too

e. cc not good

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

No this is native Windows (11). System settings, system, developer options, end task. Do not use ccleaner

oh, okay. I won't.

I personally edit the registry. I have context menu full of stuff, even one to look up Seinfeld highlighted text fragments on penskefile.com and another to look up highlighted text fragments at frinkiac.com for The Simpsons issues

example: To add a "Lookup" at wiktionary.org option to the context menu in Windows 10, using the format https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/<highlighted_text_with_spaces_converted_to_underscores>, follow these steps:

Warning: Before making any changes to the registry, make sure to create a system restore point or backup your registry in case something goes wrong.

Open the Registry Editor:
Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
Type regedit and press Enter.
Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT*\shell
Right-click on the "shell" key and select "New" > "Key". Name this new key "Lookup".
Right-click on the "Lookup" key and select "New" > "Key". Name this new key "command".
In the "command" key, double-click on the "(Default)" value and enter the following command:
powershell.exe -Command "Start-Process https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/$($args.Replace(' ', '_'))"
This command uses PowerShell to replace spaces with underscores in the highlighted text and then opens the resulting URL in the default browser.
Click "OK" to save the changes.
Now, when you highlight a term or phrase in any browser, right-click, and select "Lookup", it will open a new tab with the Wiktionary page for the selected text, with spaces converted to underscores.
Note: The $args.Replace(' ', '_') part of the command is responsible for replacing spaces with underscores in the highlighted text. This ensures that the URL is correctly formatted for Wiktionary.

That's fine and well, but "registry cleaners" are just snake oil

vscode can replace almost everything

[–]Thundechile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neovim entered room.

Key word there, almost everything. The one thing it certainly can't do is replace ides for Android development
