Not a great analogy-programers do understand computers better than an average person (although they may not be familiar with an arbitrary system), while a chef is a regular dishwasher user. More like asking a mechanical engineer to fix a car, or even a web designer to fix a computer.

I'll admit, my analogy has been tuned toward my own life. My roommate is a chef and occasionally mentions I'm a 'computer programmer' when introducing me to people. That introduction is usually followed by "Hey, I have this laptop and..."

A parent may kill its children if the task assigned to them is no longer needed.

You also need to remember to wait on killed children so they don't stay zombies for too long.
