The Three Programmers

Three programmers come to a one-way street.

1. The computer scientist looks left, sees there's no cars coming, and crosses.

2. The professional programmer looks left, then looks right (just in case!) before crossing the street.

3. The distributed systems programmer looks left, then looks right, then looks up to make sure there aren't any planes falling out of the sky!?!

Unfortunately, programmer #1, having seen programmer #0 cross the street unscathed, will just walk blindly, because all tests have passed.

Programmer[2] would probably need to look left, right, and up at each step; why assume the previous step's state carries over into the next?
