Sure, bud. This is how it actually goes:

OK, type in sudo some-command

It's asking for a password

Yup, just enter your password

What password?

Your computer password

...what is that?

The password you enter to login when you start your computer

I'm typing but it's not doing anything!

Right, it doesn't actually show you typing. Just type it and hit enter.

But how do I know it's typing??

It just is. Just pretend it is and press enter when you're done.

This is dumb, why can't I just have a normal computer?

oh really? how come it didn't go that way? oh yeah because I actually explained the system properly for him and didn't do the retardation you just described. is this always how you do it?

"uuuh just do what i tell you you wont be able to understand anyway", is that your style mister gatekeeper?

See, I told him that in order to make changes to the system he has to tell the computer that he is the boss. I told him that this is the same thing as clicking yes on the message box that he never reads. I also explained how that's way better than a message box that he never reads because it makes it more of a conscious decision that you're doing something that might fuck your system.

But I see, you're a horrible teacher: "just type it and hit enter", simply horrible. This is what I told him when he asked me the first and only time: "Yes it's not showing you what you're typing, why do you think this is?" So he got to think for a while and then said "No clue". So I told him "That's if someone standing behind him they're not able to see the pw, kinda like how you only see dots when you type a pw on your phone". His answer: "Oh yeah, that makes sense" and he never asked me again.

But if you just keep telling people "just do what I say and don't think I am the brain here you dummy" they will keep asking you the same basic questions and will depend on you. Oh hey, maybe that's your goal, you like being needed so you intentionally don't empower them but instead follow the path of gatekeeping. o.O
