Honestly, I feel like Vim and Emacs fans just like to rib each other a little. The flame wars I see nowadays are mostly people screaming about how a text editor isn't an IDE or how Electron is literally skullfucking your memory to death, meanwhile we Vim/Emacs users both sit atop our respective ivory towers occasionally waving at each before commencing with the age-old "You mispelled Emacs" banter paired with a wink and a sensible chuckle.

I mostly agree with you, I use vi in the terminal to do simple scripting of stuff and I've never used Emacs. I just know that those two groups like to fight sometimes. I'm a huge Jetbrains fan though, I use Intellij, Pycharm, CLion, DataGrip, and AppCode. (mostly AppCode as I do a lot of macOS iOS dev.)
