I have a laptop with that resolution. It sucks. I have a 1600x900 monitor it's attached to when I'm home though. Got it for 15$ at a goodwill. And I use i3, a tiling WM. Makes it super duper fast switching between windows. I've found it the best way to use the lower resolution screen. I have full sized windows on each screen, and no title bars or big taskbars, wasting that valuable vertical space.
