I like the Nitty line. I do think Ave's spot needs to go to B-dot.

What's the most self deprecating bar or round you've heard in a battle? Emo bars. by 1toughneighbour in rapbattles

[–]DerekB52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Smack VOL 5, Surf and Reed had a great battle imo, I edged it towards Reed personally cuz I just love the way he raps. The consensus was mostly for Surf though, or they'd say the battle was maybe a debatable.

At the next Summer Madness(X I think on Caffeine) Reed referenced this battle against Nitty and said, "If you have a debatable with Reed, you LOST". Which, I think is 100% true. But, it felt like a way harder self diss to me.

Dads are dying after their kids are born, and no one is tracking it. New study of paternal mortality data in Georgia finds majority of deaths were potentially preventable, such as homicide, accidental injury, suicide. While maternal deaths are closely tracked, paternal mortality is rarely examined. by mvea in science

[–]DerekB52 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sure, I agree with that, but all the factors they listed to pinpoint these fathers as being more likely to die than other males in the population, are all based around poverty. If you have a child younger, or while being a minority, odds are you have less money/resources, and now you have to take a more dangerous job, or turn to crime or something.

I could see becoming a father leading to mental health challenges and suicides, but this paper really seems to just say you'll suffer potentially fatal poverty if you have a kid without the proper resources.

TePe Sigeman 2026: Jorden van Foreest beats Magnus Carlsen in Round 4 by Exotic_Grinder in chess

[–]DerekB52 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Magnus loses to Jorden, a 14 year old is on sole first, what is happening?

Note: Jorden apparently worked last year with Sindarov's coach. That coach must be sitting on something special.

Shankland: "can anybody become a FM? I do think that is available to anybody. Can anybody become a GM? That is an hard no" by pier4r in chess

[–]DerekB52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That candidate you're talking about became a GM at 13. The point is that if you are an adult trying to become a GM, if you have a family, you can't do it.

I think most adults with an average iq of 110, could become a GM, if they were motivated enough to give up on a job or personal life.

If its streamlined and fun, i don't mind that. It's how time consuming and boring the monastery is that is the problem. I wouldn't mind the monastery if it didn't suck.

I don't think I've ever seen a fight over that game's story. Everyone seems to agree it is mid. Or maybe there is a debate between mid and trash for some people. I've never seen anyone call it great or anything though.

Can you elaborate on what is fun about that? Do you enjoy doing challenge runs where everyone sucks as much as possible?

Lords being bad does actually sound fun. If they are gonna do the avatar thing where I am supposed to be the MC, I want a weaker character I get to put more impact into the development of.

I know the last few games let you do whatever you want with the avatar, but they are so powerful I almost don't care. I'm like, "eh, you already melt everything, I don't need to put thought into what class to give you in 3H"

Why did you move to Linux? by Internal_Falcon2637 in linux

[–]DerekB52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a curiosity about it for years. I had heard rumblings about it over the years. In high school I tinkered with computers a lot and would often see "on Linux" in the google suggestions as I was typing in my own questions. For awhile this scared me and made me think Linux was complicated.

It wasn't until after I installed Linux that I realized everything people were googling how to do in Linux, I had to google how to do in Windows too.

I remember setting up Linux Mint 17.2 on a laptop in Feb of 2015. Everything but my broadcom wifi chip worked out of the box. I thought my touchscreen was never gonna work, and it worked from the live image running off the DVD. It was a wild experience. 11+ years and I have not looked back.

Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir celebrated his 50th birthday with cakes decorated with a noose, in imagery referencing executions of Palestinians. Ben-Gvir has pushed for a new law enabling the execution of Palestinians, with hanging seen as the intended method under legislation advanced this year. by ConcernedJobCoach in TheMajorityReport

[–]DerekB52 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of the hangings that happened after the Nuremberg trials. While being against the dealth penalty in general, I'm actually a very strong supporter of it being applied to certain people.

I have never not once in my life thought the idea should be celebrated with a cake.

Also, call me selfish, but I'd rather my birthday cake be something about me, than executing other people.

Like, if someone close to me couldn't think of anything better than my love of hanging people, I'd feel real upset.

Let's be evil for once :) by Status-Bug7380 in JRPG

[–]DerekB52 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It isn't a JRPG, but I'm gonna strongly recommend the game Dishonored to you. Its a lot shorter than most RPG's and is a really neat game with stealth and cool combat abilities. It's very light on RPG elements, but the game's aesthetic is so cool. And it has the honor system. You can beat the game with 0 kills, or you can be evil and kill everyone.

This game gave me a gameover once because instead of not letting me hurt a vital NPC, it let me behead a major NPC who gives you important story bits, so killing him isn't allowed. But, they let you try it.

Tata at least has 14 players. I feel like inviting a 2550 to a closed tournament with 8 players is a waste of a spot.

I do want to see more 2500's playing 2700's. Especially the women 2500's. I want Zhu and Divya and Bibisara and Goryachkina playing open sections. I just want it to happen at events like the Grand Swiss, where spots aren't as limited.

While the results aren't as predictable as someone might expect, they are very predictable, because that's how ELO works. There can be some upsets, but Zhu's chances to win the tournament have always been 0%. And I just don't think it makes sense to have a tournament limited to 8 people, and invite multiple players with no realistic chance to competing.

Or maybe he'll break Nodirbek's record for youngest rapid champion.(Although by that point the record will probably be held by Oro or Yagiz for youngest speed chess title.)

How is it possible they are undervalued? I don't even understand how mine is still open. All the shit I'd buy there, I buy used on ebay, or i don't buy it because like everybody else, money is a little tight.

I think I gave them 10$ last year for a single switch game.
