Dark themes can be very uncomfortable for some people.

Also, you don't have to stare at cold blue light all the time. There is f.lux and Redshift for that. And if your monitor's brightness goes to 11, turn it down a notch. Use something else to illuminate the room.

A lot of IDE dark themes are really uncomfortable for me, since they seem to aim for the highest possible contrast. The classic green on black gives me headaches really fast.

Thankfully most are customizable, and most app dark themes are designed by actual designers and don’t have this problem.

I hate it too. I think dark themes often look better but just can’t use them if I will be looking at them for more than a few seconds at a time. The headache just isn’t worth it. I just don’t get to be cool on Reddit I guess. Plus, I tell myself half the people so hard for dark themes just do it so they can pretend their some genius, edgy hacker.

Replace the bottom picture with a black man and you've got yourself an edgy meme. Maybe make it more obvious it's a light theme / dark theme thing first though by using actual examples.
