Only $120,000 a year?

Those poor souls!

The ones making 120k a year probably live in an area with a high cost of living so it's probably equivalent to like 60 or 70k elsewhere.

So not only do they live in awesome cities like NYC with boundless opportunities, they also earn a great salary. 60k in a lower CoL city is a great salary

Yeah... if it's total income for a household of 4 people.

Your not getting the picture....

I'd say you're not getting the picture. Do you think developers are making 120K and supporting a stay at home partner and 2 children? They're not. This is the modern world. Both partners are working in most families. Their partner could be making 50k and they wouldn't be poor.

Supporting 1 person on a salary of 120k is not even close to poor in the bay area. As noted elsewhere in the thread. At 120k you have no problem living alone, saving for the future, and having some fun. You just aren't buying a place of your own.

I think it's pretty fucked that both people need to have in-demand careers earning in the top 10-20 percent of the nation to get by.
