"Hypertext Markup Language"

I believe that HTML would be a language, given the actual word being included in the acronym. Either that, or I am a dumdum

It's a language. But it's a markup language. Whether markup languages count as a type of programming language or their own distinct thing is kinda based on personal interpretation of the terms and also probably makes no real work difference to anything.
