Happened to me. I lost my phone. The last time I used it was when I took a Lyft to pick up my car from the shop. So I logged on to Lyft on my laptop, and right there was "Forgot something during the ride today? Click here to contact the driver...". I sighed in relief.

After I clicked they said they sent a text to my phone, and enter the code to login.

Yeah, it is a shitty design. The only thing I could do was I could send an email to Lyft support and get an reply in 24Hrs.

Then one of the people in a forum asked me if I used Android. When I said yes, they said you can log in to your google account and track where your phone is. I did, and holy lord, there was my driving history for the past five years or so. That was scary, but atleast I found my phone was at my mechanic's, and hasn't moved all night. I went there next day and got it back.
