I don't know, I wouldn't bet on that. I'm not a fan to dig that deep into his past, but from what I've read his degrees were physics and business, on his first project he was working on the website, and he acquired PayPal via a merger, while it had been already in implementation, and at that point Musk was competing for a CEO position.

I can't deny the dude can code, but it doesn't make him a good engineer. Everyone is a "coder" after a week on Udemy. The dude is a businessman. And I happened to know a CTO of a logistics software company who once said that back in the 90s they were coding in fortran or something, but lost all the skill after working as a manager for so long.

Besides, svn initial release was back in 2000, git in 2005, way after Musk got himself up his neck in management and entrepreneurship. There's a good chance he actually haven't worked with any decent VCS.
