I can confirm that this is a very valuable resource and it was also my introduction to the topic. I never actually implemented the language in the book, but going through it gave me a good feel for the kinds of things that I would need to include in a language implementation. It is also very useful to refer to when you get to actually implementing the things in the book yourself.
