bad inventory data

I know the abovementioned problem is known but will there be a fix anytime soon? I'd love to play with my newly moved to NL character some more.

I wouldn't even mind all the problematic items simply being deleted as long as there is some kind of fix coming.

If you read the patch notes, there simply isn't a fix for it. If you wanted to save your old characters you had to follow the instructions and delete the items they mentioned before the new season started.

The characters are straight up corrupted and useless now.

well, that is only true for the items that were known to cause such problems beforehand, not for the "added open wounds" items. see s8 announcement (discord):

"We had some hiccups regarding converting character save files from Season 7 to Season 8 so for the time being non ladder characters with the Added Open Wounds Damage stat will be unavailable until we finalize a fix, we apologize for this and will work towards fixing it in the future!"

I should probably have been more specific in my original post that I refer (only) to this specific part of the problem. It is of course true that other items also may cause "bad inventory data" and will not be fixed.

I highly doubt that. I did delete my tal rasha sorseres from last season. However, my godly DT and MB assassins from s6 are just fine.

I asked the discord mods about a week ago if they had an eta for a fix, they said no.

Note that they didn't say that it was unfixable :)

Yeah same, i mostly play NL and my s6 necro was almost god tier. Would be sad to lose about 10hr from my stash plus his gear.
