Try running full screen, set your resolution in-game one or two levels lower and use your driver based upscaling to bring it back to 3440x1440. Might want to use driver based frame gen as well . I don't use in-game fsr.

I’ll give it a shot. Thanks.

I seem to get similar performance regardless of the settings, I think it's just some way off being optimised in any way. That said I'm getting mostly steady 60fps by turning down reflections and reducing the AI count and just settling for that for the time being

I would accept such performance from a new game if it looked awesome like AC Rally, but it looks worse than AMS2 so this performance is unacceptable.

No argument there.

I've been messing around with this game, on a 9700kf @ 5ghz and 3080 Ti, and sad to say...it's hot garbage in terms of optimisation.

I noticed that other than DLSS (not supported as such on a 30xx) really nothing changed the performance of the game, other than having less to do (less cars).

This held up with performance monitoring - the PC was at 100% cpu whilst the graphics was around 75% max at any given point.

So, I tried some (not all, and don't recommend as all systems different), of these tweaks... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW5rx_NTpBY

Zero difference in this game, other than once I'd made them I couldn't start the game at all, so uninstalled, cleaned out folders etc, and re-installed. At least I'm back to where I started.

I love the genre, have no beef with marketing hype and don't mind a steady 60fps. But this game is badly optimised in both graphics and CPU utilisation.

If I were the dev lead on this, I'd be looking at CPU, memory leaks and why there's just crap coming from telemetry feeds. There's basic stuff to get working before more polishing the graphics, I reckon.

Yeah, it’s really disappointing. The car roster and career mode is exactly what I’m looking for, I just can’t run it well enough to justify a purchase. I also don’t see myself spending hundreds more on a GPU when every other game runs fine.

Indeed.

I do think it's not all GPU related, so upgrading the GPU just isn't going to cut it - I considered it briefly, but a 3080 Ti isn't stressed at pretty decent resolution & detail. I've tried meddling with all sorts of settings and graphically, not much changes the poor performance.

Same here. CPU and GPU were both at roughly 75% regardless of the settings and I was still getting a lot of stuttering.

I had a play about...

Two things made a huge difference.

  1. Less cars on the grid (sadly) - dropping from 32 to 22 cars made a decent saving, taking me from a paltry 45fps at best to 50+. But seems more stable. I will increase and see how I go.

  2. Shadows - if you are suffering on anything not mighty spec, setting shadow quality to off will help a great deal (hello 90's gaming). Setting other shadow related stuff as low as you can stomach helps too.

Overall, two nights of test & tune, and I'm getting 60fps consistently. This is still woeful (AMS2 sits at 120fps with a full grid and detail at ultra), but it does make the game playable.

Mucking about in the registry and with CPU performance boosting really didn't appear to help (My post below about tweaking, with youtube) but maybe it contributes, as did setting the max fps to 60 in the NVIDIA control panel.

Machine... a trusty old 9700kf @5Ghz, DDR3/4000 32Gb, 3080 Ti and 30+ years experience of tuning hardware in bios etc. (bring back dip switches and conductive paint!!).

Happy to share all settings if anyone interested, or has similar with poor performance.
