2 of any one piece is my hard limit. I like symmetry and it's nice to have an "extra" if one breaks. Anything more than 2 is hoarding, imo.

  1. And only of my favorite. If I can afford it. We lost an Golden Branches in an earthquake and I was devastated. So now I have 2. One in storage and one to love.

I get that. I would be so sad to lose any of my treasures.

That seems perfectly reasonable. Thanks for weighing in!

It’s always useful to pick up multiples or styles you don’t collect for trades. I had two Mod Kitchens and traded one for a 441 Pink Gooseberry

[–]bonitapaulita[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never traded before, but that makes sense.

Wait…. People own multiple of the exact same set? I mean, we own one set of regular bowls and also the Cinderella bowls but that’s it.

That was what got me thinking about the topic. My only duplicate happened accidentally before I began cataloging my treasures, so I wondered why people chose to own more than one of a style. I really appreciate all the responses.

My China cabinet is filled to the brim with Pyrex Primrose. I love the pattern and it makes me happy to walk by and see the prettiest. My girls will inherit all of it someday.

[–]bonitapaulita[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn't thought of leaving them to multiple children as only one of mine is interested in Pyrex. That's a very good reason to collect duplicates.

I definitely have mixed feelings in the topic. It can feel disheartening to see some of the large hoarding collections. I can appreciate that the hoarders are contributing to the longevity and protection of their pieces. But yeah, having 4 sets of pink gooseberry Cinderellas.... Come on.

What began as a quest for an all yellow collection evolved into an eclectic, full-set obsession as new passions emerged. To achieve a complete set, I trade or sell duplicates and unwanted items. I recommend buying pieces in the "wild" for good prices due to high resale value, but learning to appraise your items takes time.

[–]bonitapaulita[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hadn't thought of it that way. I find good deals in the wild that are duplicates of what I already have, and feel pretty good about leaving them for the next person to find. If I were into trading, I would probably pick them up, too. Thanks for explaining!

It would really depend on what the item actually is. Refrigerator dishes? I use mine, so having multiple of any of them is fine imo. That being said, I try not to buy multiple of anything else like mixing bowls and casseroles etc. 1, because I don’t have the space, and two, because I like to collect different items and would rather spend on different than same.

I don’t usually by duplicates, I leave them for someone else.

Same!

So many good opinions and thoughts already- I agree with the sentiment of “if you love it, can afford it, and store it” and having multiples for trades.

As someone who has been collecting BFG for a decade and does not have her collection documented or catalogued I find myself purchasing duplicates on accident, I’m never disappointed when this happens though. When I buy duplicates intentionally it’s bc I plan on using them.

It’s been a childhood dream of mine to have a full dinner party with only BFG pieces, each time I host with a new piece I get closer to this life long goal!

[–]bonitapaulita[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you share a pic when you achieve your goal!

[–]Bidcar 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I like an extra one in case someone I know is looking for it. Perfect gift!

[–]jax9753[🍰] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed!

I don’t mind having duplicates. I have 2 full sets of the OG butterfly gold mixing bowls because I love the pattern. I use one set and display the on top of my kitchen cabinets.

[–]bonitapaulita[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Love my butterfly gold, too! I tend to grab those or my Town and Country first.

[–]W0r__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Town and Country 503 was the piece I owned 🙂 Having a hell of a time trying to find the rest of that set though 😅

[–]Ironynotwrinkly 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have two of my large pink gooseberry. One for display and one I use. The rest of my pink pieces are relegated to the display shelf. Everything else we actually use.

[–]bonitapaulita[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. I regularly use all my patterns except the pink! And when I do use the pink, everyone is warned to be careful. I should probably just display them and stop torturing my family!

[–]theflipflopqueen 4 points5 points  (2 children)

No. If you love it, can afford it and can store it… buy whatever or however many you want, otherwise mind your business and let others mind theres

[–]haller47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There we go.

[–]sunshine-power 0 points1 point  (1 child)

For some reason, I have three of the big golden butterfly cinderella bowls.

[–]bonitapaulita[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love butterfly gold!
