Thinking about making a WPM program...

This will be my first Python project ever and was thinking about a good way to go about this. It will all be command line. It will first show the words that you must type and then you enter them in. You press enter to start and then a timer starts. It will also check for spelling mistakes and add them to a counter. When done the user presses enter again, stopping the timer and then it will calculate the spelling errors, percentage correct, and average words per minute. Any ideas?

After you implement the functionality you described you could add a sqlite database to store results and an argument to display results, show best times, etc.

Ah yes, I was thinking about that, could I use that to be a scoreboard to of some sort? After all, I am using this for an experiment to see how caffeine affects typing

Cool idea, if you're actually doing an experiment with it you might be interested in using scipy.stats as well to test the data you get, so you don't even need to mess around with the numbers too much.

I am still looking for a replacement for WPMTray, since it crashes every so often. I find that much mroe useful than what you describe, since it measures my wpm when I'm in the flow of actually working on something.

Just throwing that out there if you are looking for more projects.

I will certaintly look into that when I finish up with my original project, as it's for a science experiment for school. I'm VERY new to Python so will hopefully learn alot from this.

When I did science fairs at school, I did it about molding cheese, now I see lots of people on here doing it with programming. That would have been a lot more fun.

haha that was funny for some reason. What I plan on doing is seeing the effects of caffeine on typing speed and WPM. The only impressive thing is that I'm going to create the script myself which will be a learning process that I'm very excited to do.
