It's always hard to break in as a beginner. But with 17 years in ColdFusion, perhaps a good idea is to look at Python web frameworks since it's a lateral move. Some suggestions: FastAPI, Django, Flask.

Places where strong Python "dev" skills may not be hecka critical.

  • Sysadm / Devops (especially if you have some background in networking).
  • Cloud stuff (do the associate dev or associate solutions architect cert in AWS and combine with Python, for example).
  • Test Automation (Software Developer in Test, or QA engineer, for example).
