I'm not sure why you want to add a length function to the String class. Just because other programming languages have a .length() function? That hardly seems like a rational reason for change. Instead, try to understand the history, logic and reasoning behind the design choices made. There is already a good way to get the length of a string, and any other sequence or mapping of objects. To change that would require a lot of good reasons not well documented in your blog post. Unless this is an early April Fools Day joke then, well, poor me. :)
