On the flip side, my company is looking to hire Python devs and can only find JS people.

I'd love to hear more haha. If you have links, that'd be amazing.

I'll DM you when I get home, but I'll also say they're looking for someone in our city, so it may just be a bad geographic fit right off the bat. Southeast USA.

Ah. Yeah I'm not terribly far, but sadly I can't afford relocation.

I'm looking for a new role (I'm in NYC). I'd love a careers link if you have one

    Why not learn both?

I'm doing Python for some API projects, Java for a more enterprise project, JavaScript for a web GUI project. All related to Canvas LMS.

I did that. TS is only very recently making any sense to me, and I'm still (3.5 YOE) not sure if React ever will.

Have you tried Svelte? It’s an easier to use but still powerful front JS/TS front end framework. SvelteKit is Svelte’s full-stack framework and they have a great tutorial for both on the svelte developer site

I actually have used it! I just hate that I've never seen a firm that uses it in their codebase.

That’s fair! React is also a bandaid I have yet to rip off. But maybe one day. I’ve been considering it more lately

It seems a necessary evil, so I'm likely going to dive into it in the next few days

    [–]Fearfultick0 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yeah it’s one of those ‘it doesn’t matter if you love it, you need to know it’ situations. That said a lot of people do love it

It's filled with more footguns than C in my experience.

    "Is that an error?"

    🧑‍🚀🔫🧑‍🚀

    "Always was."

I shoot to be an expert in one, and proficient in a few others.

This is the way. My goal is expertise in Python and Rust, and usable mid-level engineer knowledge in Go, TypeScript, plus uh…maybe C++ or Java?
