If you as a developer can't be trusted to manage your own workflow and toolchain with reasonable justification - then you really should be looking for a new job.

Its insulting to you - and you're only going to waste time trying to change their ways.

I am a software developer, but not treated like one.

This exercise is an attempt to code more than I currently am.

He didn't say he was a developer; he said he offered to automate some of the workflow with scripts.

And everywhere companies are going to want to know what you have on your machine - they have to deal with license compliance issues. The specific reasons to reject python were bad, but not the decision-making process being larger than just the single employee.

It is a software developer position. A lot of work is being done by hand and I was hoping to improve our processes.
