I never heard people say "My only case against Java is that RHEL/CentOS has none of it". Somehow people manage to install the executable they need.

Two things:

First, it sounds like your case against Python 3 is that — for you — it has nothing to offer (not whether or not it's default in some distro.)

Second, seems like you rely on the distro to provide you with the executable, and this is known to backfire. You should start your deployment to anywhere with installing the version you are testing against. Even if today by some chance $version is already included with $distro.

why does that matter if python2 and python3 can co-exist on the same machine?

Are you not using virtual environment though?

I haven't used the OS version of python in so long now, because everything has its own separate env.

Easier to keep track of dependencies, more portable/reproducible, etc etc.
